Some things I do: I organize a monthly brunch for friends. I try and grow it, invite people I've recently met.

If someone asks me to do something, I try and do it. Get invited to poker night, I'm there. Asked to play Fantasy Football, yep! Even though I don't watch football and have never played.

Example: I used to work for a company that basically made slot machines. We needed to produce something called parsheets to give to submit to get our slots certified and to the casino. I was given the project but no manager wanted to give any developers to implement it. No one wanted to give the money to buy a computer with enough power to run simulations to produce the theoretical hold. But this was something we NEEDED to help get our games approved.

Right, but how much work is done when in the office. You might have the same amount of downtime in the office than at home, but now that down time can't be spent doing something else.

Depends on the age of the child. A 10 year old is old enough to be at the house without direct supervision but not be left alone. They would need to go to a daycare if someone were in an office.

I want you to look them in the eyes and tell them they are the bottleneck and take it a step further and explain why they are the bottleneck so you both are on the same page.

I've always wanted to be able to tell people they're the bottleneck. I've had talks with management about this. "We need to tell people bluntly so they understand the impact they're having."

Nope, it could hurt a relationship and relationship is more important than delivering.

Notepad++ has a place in my heart. When I was learning HTML back in the late 90s early 00s I was using MS Frontpage or Adobe Dreamweaver GUI.

I read that those would spit out sub-optimal HTML and you should use a text editor. So I downloaded Notepad++ and I learned real HTML using it.

I feel this article was basically daring Elon to do it.

I found mine networking through previous colleagues.

clinicaltrials.gov let's you save a search term then download the results as a zip. But there's an xml file for each search result for the trial.

One of the first things I played around with was using Python to get that file, unzip it, then iterate through the xml files grabbing the info I wanted and putting it into ElasticSearch to make it searchable then putting an angular front end on it.

No one knows the amount of thought I put into this same problem when building train tracks for my son but I had no idea how to solve the problem.

I used to work for a state gov entity, one of the counties I worked with named their servers after Looney Toon characters. I always thought that was cool and fun. Where I worked named the servers after the departments. /sigh. Such boring.

I usually don't have enough socks. I did just buy 3 more pair from Darn Tough though.

It's funny, long time ago, back in my bachelor days I definitely didn't have enough socks, and wouldn't take time after work to go get some. So I would go sockless on the way to work in the morning, buy some from Target to wear for the day. Then do that each day until the weekend when I would wash my clothes. Then that eventually got me enough socks to get through the week.

I used to have Google Home and moved to Homepod Minis. I should have ran them side by side, but that would have gotten very confusing for other people in the family.

Siri is fine at controlling smart home devices, giving weather, timers, etc...but if you ask it questions more times that not it wants you to use your phone. Google Home handled that so much better.

We have Apple Music and have Homepods around the house so we use it for that.

1. I'm a Scrum Master. 2. I really wasn't great at it. I loved it, only did it professionally for 2 years, but did side projects for years before I took an official job. I wish I was good enough to be productive in a professional environment.

I almost feel the opposite. I've had tons of ideas and when I started writing them out they flowed out of my mind faster than I could write. But I don't have the best retention either. So I would have tons and tons of ideas and by the time I got it to paper I could remember maybe 3 things and couldn't recall the rest.

Hm. I switched from iPhone to Android almost 3 years ago and I'm thinking about going back to iPhone in the fall. I don't have any of my old chargers but this might not be a bad idea. If they deduct the cost of the charger that's money I can put toward a longer cable. I would always buy longer charging cables anyway.
