"HeY xxx group we have a problem, a long standing problem. We need to change our culture and start shaming people who does X or Z. We can't Protect anyone just because they are "our" tribe. Neither we can blame it for things done by other tribes centuries ago."

If you have any interest in being accurate in your view of American history, may I recommend one of my favorites, What Hath God Wraught - The Transformation of America, 1815 - 1848 by Howe published by Oxford Press, really a great series to be honest.

Also quick math tells me 1868 was 153 years ago versus a couple of centuries. My dad was born in 1930's. His father, my grandfather was born in the 1880's. Do you know your grandparents or great grandparents. If they lived in the US they saw some violent, normalized behavior on a level and duration unprecedented in human history.

Your identification of the longstanding problem and your proposed solution seems, racist, because you blame people and policies for shortcomings.

There is already a lot of real value in ubiquitous computing, automated warehouses, supply chain optimizations, digital entertainment, digital government services in many countries, I could go on for couple of pages now.

Is technology about, or only about optimizing value in supply chains?

Not saying we should do that though, because if Boeing goes out of business, we would be left with just one major manufacturer of passenger jets, and that's never a good thing.

This is a strong argument to work with Boeing to correct both the engineering and company cultural issues that produced an aircraft that kills their customers' customers. What's happening now seems like the time elapsed in the penalty box for bad behavior and now they are back on the ice. As you've stated, Boeing is too important to go out of business. Should a crash happen in the western world they'll long for the difficulties and corrective opportunities they face now.

If you are unwilling to do that, then you need to make sure you diversify your cloud. It's much less likely that two competing cloud vendors would shut you off at exactly the same time.

Isn't that what happened, they lost all of their cloud providers because the providers could not justify being part guaranteeing reliable service delivery of under moderated content?

My wife took no position on the issue but politely replied saying the post felt off-topic and she didn't want to hear about politics in her favorite gardening group.

Several people attacked her on the post, calling her white privileged, racist, etc... all for suggesting the post was off-topic (even though the group's own rules prohibited political content).

Isn't the ability to decide what issue your bring to a space and then deciding which issues you'll "take no position" a privilege?

The fact that they're now trying to control how people think is just an extra reason.

I thought they were controlling what people could post on the platforms whose terms require consent, not controlling the thinking of those people. Controlling how people think, now that *would* be impressive tech.

It was probably a good idea to rebrand from Riot to Element after this week's deadly violence at the US Capitol. It's difficult for me to imagine endeavoring to protect tribal, potential violent rhetoric given recent historical events. It seems short-sighted to sell a water poisoning solution to people who don't mind destroying themselves to attack their perceived opponents.

I do think there's a gray area between immigration generating diversity and immigration serving the same ultimate purpose as invasion.

At what point did you stop being the invader and become the invaded? Conceivably, someone could have held the same sentiment about someone more vunerable in your lineage whose efforts leave you where you sit today. I favor giving that person a chance and not labeling them an invader. I believe that's what's outlined in the rulebook here (the United States for me).

At some point you go from becoming diverse to being supplanted. Immigration rates high enough to drastically change the culture of a society within the lifespan of one human being can be catastrophic. It naturally creates division and strife.

This line of thinking, positioning and labeling I consistently find troubling as it leads to violence against minorities justified by often false, purposeful anecdotes without consideration of the policies and practices that cause inequality. That's catastrophic.

I wonder if I am an outlier here (physically the US) and think society is not collapsing, but diversifying. Also, given the state of the environment, national debt, employment prospects for many in the generations proceding me, and civic unrest, it seems prudent that we evaluate our socioeconomic activities.

Your theory is that if other large companies do something, it must be morally acceptable

You left something out, "as long as it doesn't effect me (yet), and large companies do it, it must be morally acceptable." I don't know why we defend them. Without Google we still go on. Without us, or support for their practices, they dramatically change or they disappear.
