Absolutely. After covid, people are craving physical contact and outdoor activities. Travel and tourism is trending up. This idea that people want to put on a headset and stay indoors, netflix and chill or whatever is not happening. Maybe the niche hackernews/reddit crowd might prefer to avoid social contact and put on a VR headset, but I'm not seeing that in the local restaurants, bars, shopping malls, concerts, and theatres. I agree. I get motion sickness from playing FPS games. The symptoms improve, but it takes a while to adjust. Some people have no problem with it, whereas for some it is completely impossible to overcome. It's hard for me to see broad adoption of VR with the current technology.

I would argue that the typical reader at hacker news is not the target audience for iPad. Think young children and grandparents. My elderly mother loves her ipads. She has three of them. She can watch youtube on them, check email, chat apps, play music, control her TV. My preschool nieces and nephews love the iPad similarly for youtube and games. iPads are the easiest to use computers for people who are, for one reason or another, functionally computer-illiterate.

Look through the typical house in Europe or practically anywhere else in the world. Note how many things are made in China - clothing, TV, furniture, appliances, etc. All that money has to go somewhere. Ideally, it would flow back into that original country as investment.

Self-driving would take away a big chunk of that market, but estimates vary on when that becomes a reality. With every major technology improvement, there were massive employment and social shifts. Wars and revolutions were often side effects. However, I don't think the percentage of the population engaged in the taxicab and trucking industries are enough to destabilize society. By its nature, the employees in that business are often transitory. Perhaps there will be legislation to force self-driving vehicles such as taxicabs and commercial trucks to keep a human "driver" to supervise and assist when the vehicle gets into situations outside of its programming.

That may be the case for some, but for some others I've met in similar situations in developing countries, they were happy and felt proud to be supporting their families. I didn't feel like their primary motivation was fear. Not everyone is so complex or pessimistic.

Simply put, the US health care system has become a rent seeking system to funnel wealth to the top 1%. When viewed in that way, Ryan's plan makes perfect sense.

I agree with you. But I think the touch pad is a harbinger of things to come. The eventual goal is probably a touch pad keyboard, one that reconfigures depending on the circumstances. It might even be like the Star Trek NG consoles eventually. I think it might be possible to use the haptic touch on a localized level such that each key press causes a sense of typing feedback.

If Trump had been a normal candidate, he would have beat Clinton. No tawdry sex scandals, crazy public fights with Ms Universe, gold star parents, leading members of his own party. If he had raised money on the same scale as Romney or established a ground game and analytics like Clinton. Based solely on primary data, yes, he probably would win.

It would probably get DDOS'ed just as quickly.
