It’s the Friday before WWDC during which Apple is going to announce an “improved” Siri based on Google models (a locked partnership, for now). Maybe it’s a coincidence, but this might be Google releasing models that will be showcased next week by Apple?

No knowledge, just speculation.

FWIW, this has been my experience since 2003 when I had to get suspension work done. Doesn’t matter if it’s a BMW or Honda, dealership or indie repair shop, the story I have heard consistently is that the bushing is part of the arm for structural integrity, stability, <reason I can’t remember, truth or crock>. Bushings typically fail faster than the arm does, and this repair is expensive ($1000+ for performance cars, not that much cheaper for Civics).

Your observation makes sense given the population density and sheer number of people that the Bay Area has relative to Montana. If the Costco in where-you-are Montana weren’t chill, there would be similarities between that area and the Bay Area / LA.

As a commenter noted as well, you can perform the swap using two std::rotate calls vs. three (less than 2N operations). This said, Raymond’s use of reverse is still most efficient at N operations (not considering paging/caching issues).

Surprised that Apple didn’t acquire Sky. Raycast might be an acquisition target if their code can become a service / extension for Spotlight in macOS. Usability win for macOS users if done right and Apple puts the right guardrails & privacy protections in place.

First tranche sold at 93c to the dollar; second sold at 98c to the dollar, with a surprise from X which covered the 2c loss, so essentially dollar for dollar.

Morgan Stanley and Bank of America came out on top of this trade. Musk's government involvement was not known with any certainty when he bought X.

Every provider / system is different. My wife is a physician who works urgent care shifts over the weekend to serve patients as described above. These are in addition to her M-Friday routine. She is part of the Kaiser system. This is systemwide for Kaiser, so my wife’s weekend engagement isn’t a one-off.

Why is the answer to offset MTA ticket revenue an additional tax on those making $100K+ or those traveling through the city (airport taxes) who don’t use the service? In a city with super high cost of living and almost no auditable way to connect taxes collected with service delivered, this sounds like a penalty to anyone making six figures or connecting through the airport.

There has to be another, more sustainable way for a rich city like NYC to make a service truly accessible and free without another tax. It’s like how the Bay Area bridge tolls have increased by $1 this year to fund the BART system => we still don’t know what was done with the last increase in tolls, yet we have to pony up the extra cash this year.

Smarter folks than me on HN might have an idea other than, “let’s tax folks who make more than an arbitrary dollar amount annually” that has worked in other large metropolitan areas.

Could ask the same question about $PTON. As another commentator said, “British empire levels of value destruction”.

I agree. In the SF Bay Area, especially in PG&E’s regions where average KWh is $0.40, a hybrid makes more economical sense and it isn’t even close.

The math is skewed even further once you add the extra $500 you pay for CA annual registration for an EV vs. Hybrid (personal experience, Mach-E vs. Accord Hybrid).

Public note from Sundar Pichai to kickoff Google’s 25th birthday “celebrations”.

This is particularly grubby behavior by Toast. They are already charging restaurants to use their platform. Reaching into every customer’s wallet for $0.99 (hidden fee) per transaction > $10 is greedy. They know it’s disgusting, which is why users have to click the Info button to see details about the fee.

Most customers will not notice and just pay this hidden fee, but that doesn’t make the practice palatable. There have to be other ways for Toast to achieve profitability.

At less than a USD a month--currency vs. cost of living conversion--this subscription is extremely cheap considering the many positives: confirmation of payment from a new revenue stream, multiple language support, low-ish latency, fraud prevention for the seller. While a lot of Indians have smartphones, this speaker is the ideal example of a device that solves one specific problem and nothing else.

We have two external units that serve to both heat and cool, one for each zone / floor. Bryant is the manufacturer, if memory serves.

Summer on-peak is $0.49 per KWH (1). Our average is $0.38, I had a math error.

Even with my error, the price of electricity in California is exorbitant and the grid is easily stretched to the limit => both will be exacerbated by increased demand from EVs and housing without gas lines. My math mistake doesn’t change the overall narrative.

Before someone chimes in with the obvious suggestions:

a) Water heater is a heat pump set to high efficiency.

b) Construction is 2016, so relatively new.

c) We have done a lot to insulate the home.

Net-net, this is an electricity cost issue; we are paying $0.42/KWH on average. This despite having some solar. This is not a profligate usage issue.

As a Bay Area resident with no gas connection, here are points to ponder:

1) PG&E electricity costs are among the highest in the country per KWH. They have received approvals to increase these astronomical costs by 10% in the near future. Gas is cheaper, by a lot.

2) Any time we have winds or hot weather or cold weather, the grid is under pressure and we are asked to curb our electricity usage.

3) In the winter and summer, our monthly bill for a home of 2 with the thermostats set to 63 in the winter and 79 in the summer is $300+.

Someone else’s mileage and bills might be different. But 62 is cold in the winter. 79 is hot in the summer. Sometimes unbearably so.

If the Bay Area wants to go this route, PG&E needs to be reined in, SIGNIFICANTLY. Bills are borderline unaffordable right now; the future isn’t any cheaper.

Calling a bonus chump change is reductive. Two key items to consider:

1) You don't know the size of the bonus relative to their annual salary. If this is a 10%+ bonus, it's sizable.

2) The bonus was given to all -- "have jointly agreed to pay all eligible employees a special lump sum bonus of up to 7,300 euros"

I can't recall an American company that gave out bonuses that satisfied both criteria listed above in the last 3-5 years of intense hardship.
