Surprised to read this as Norway also has Sikt AI for schools, where teachers can monitor how AI systems are used. Seems like it has both embraced AI and banned it.

CEO and Cofounder @ Kapwing. Modern video editing in the browser.
In Australia, kids aren't allowed to have YouTube accounts anymore, which means that they'll get served this generic lineup of shorts described in this article. 33% brain rot....I wonder if kids will see more and more brainrot since the algorithm doesn't know anything about them. Tabula rasa.
Some are projects that have a changing variable over a long period of time (Framingham Heart Study, E. coli long-term evolution experiment) or strive to exist a long time (Clock of the Long Now). I would argue that these projects -- their process, data collection methods, and goals -- may have been developed quickly, in a short amount of time. Their longevity is proof that the original project was well established. But the same could be said of the invention of the wheel, shoe, sliced bread, etc
Sure. We accept or reject all candidates as quickly as we can. But do you think this candidate should be progressed or rejected?
Our actual decision was to ask them to send in a video introduction before we schedule a phone screen with one of our engineers.
LLMs don't make up identical resumes twice. For example, the second position on both resumes has this description: "Worked on first class video conferencing platform for qualitative research using Typescript, Go and React.js."
What are the odds that GPT makes up that same copy for two different users?
Re: calling them -- There is no phone number listed on either resume! Also makes me suspicious this is a scam...
I had trouble following the instructions here. Also the name is a bit aggressive...
(I thought) We had a secure approach (in terms of guarded 2FA credentials, no credential sharing, security training, etc), but this has me concerned. The only place we store phone numbers of employees is in Gusto, to my knowledge, plus my personal Contacts and whoever that employee has shared their contact with personally.
I'm also unsure how concerned to be about this...
This is Julia, Kapwing's CEO. We have never done large-scale layoffs.
Very cool product and demo — congrats Tom! I’d love to hear your thoughts about customer success moving to Slack generally. What businesses are your clients, mostly? Is unthread a good fit for B2B companies with high ACV?
[This is Julia, Eric’s cofounder] We have filled out multiple counter-notices. The first attempt was the recommended action in Google’s initial takedown notice: send an email to dmca-agent@google.com with specific reference to the ticket number (2-1881000033144). I wrote a lengthy response explaining why the claims were unfounded in most cases.
After a few days, they got back to us saying actually we needed to file a counter notice form, which involves pasting the URLs one by one into a web form with an explanation for why the page did not violate copyright. So Eric and I split up the URLs and did that, one by one, for 317 URLs
We filed the counter-notice on Thursday. As of the time of this comment (Monday afternoon), we have not heard back, and our pages have not been reinstated
[This is Julia, Eric’s cofounder] 317 Kapwing webpages were taken down, but we still have others (including this blog post) that show up on Google Search. As the article explains, our home page, blog, and EDU page are among those that are de-listed
We hired four people shortly after raising our seed round (in addition to the two cofounders). Two of those early employees are still at the company 4.5 years later. One is the CTO and one is the Head of Product.
The other two left within 2 years of joining. One early employee quit before the one year vest cliff. The other left after about 18 months to start his own company (which ended up not working out).

Also check out our blog post about the name :) https://www.kapwing.com/blog/why-we-chose-an-onomatopoeia/
[This is Julia, the OC] We’re not running a spam campaign. Any more info here on what you’re referring to?
We used to make it free to remove the Kapwing watermark, but needed to up our conversion recently to extend runway and fund R&D. Just shot every creative tool in our space leverages watermarks as a conversion lever because it means we can offer most things for free.
[This is Julia, the OC] It’s not exactly clear what the end scam will be. Scammers ask for bank info, a photo of your ID, and credit info. Sounds like some sort of identity theft or bank withdrawal situation.
[This is Julia, the IC] In this case, LinkedIn had nothing to do with the scam. The thieves were using my real name and they didn’t create a fake profile for the supposed recruiter, so there’s unfortunately no phony profile to report.
[This is Julia, the OC] 100% agree. At Kapwing, we would never penalize a candidate for verifying a job opening; in fact, we’d likely see it as a positive signal and sign of enthusiasm.
This is a cool version of a suggestive AI product with a great, simple interface for reviewing. Well done -- we admire this type of product at Kapwing, the company I lead.
I really like the "Connect to Google Sheet" option. Did you have to implement a Google Workspace plugin for that functionality?
[This is Julia, the cofounder/CEO] We bootstrapped for 8 months and grew to about 100k of MRR before raising money. I wrote a blog post about this decision https://www.kapwing.com/blog/why-we-decided-to-raise-money-f....
tl;dr is that 1) It's a competitive domain, so we felt we needed to grow our team quickly to stay relevant 2) There's a lot of technical challenges with video editing in the browser + cloud, so we needed to be able to hire talented engineers to scale and 3) I believe there's a huge business in empowering creative teams, so we think we can get to venture scale and needed the capital to support that.
Like this a lot, will save time on rough cutting. Did you use a library for volume detection?

[I'm Eric's cofounder] >>it isn't right that everyone has to conform to your way of seeing the world. We're not forcing anyone to conform to our worldview. We're just sharing our perspective and providing instructions for developers who do want to change their production branch to "Main"
[This is Julia, the OC] My intention was to point out that even though I haven’t actually spent a lot of money on hiring, I have invested a ton because of my time. The actual cost is very high, even if you’re not hiring recruiters.
This article was not intended to say our hiring process is perfect. It definitely is not. Just wanted to offer our experience for other first-time founders.
My advice was not "lie to investors." My advice was to fake your confidence and certainty, even if you're not feeling confident or certain. Investors want to know that the CEO has courage and the ability to evangelize.
This is Julia, the OC. You're totally right that we didn't realize how hard raising money actually is. A lot of other founders I've met also don't realize, which means they're disappointed and discouraged when they try. The point of this post is to encourage founders to keep going even when they're down. I almost stopped fundraising a month in because I was so down, and now I'm grateful that I didn't.
Everyone has imposture syndrome when raising. I wrote this post to let founders know they're not alone and to not lose their self-confidence because of investor rejections.
Yes - we bootstrapped Kapwing for months before deciding to raise. It wasn't an easy decision, but I think it was the right one for us at this point in our career. I wrote a post on this topic on the Kapwing blog you can check out.
[This is Julia, the OC] I agree, and have many times thought back to why I didn't feel comfortable just claiming a partner for the project. I remember I was doing something else and happened to notice that a few people had posted and been claimed, and that made me insecure, wondering why no one had claimed me.
I think it's more natural to work closely with someone of your same gender, at least when they're a stranger. I'm not blaming men (or women) for that - I'm just describing how that can lead to unintentional exclusion, which is particularly painful for students who values inclusion a lot.
