Is Oregon leading the US fentanyl crisis? At a glance, it doesn’t look like it. Has West Virginia decriminalized as well?

Workloads with a lot of files, for example a large elixir web app with hot reload / fswatch enabled, have upwards of 20 second page load time. More than enough to mess up my flow.
Fun bit of history: Jamie Zawinski thinks he may have invented html email while at Netscape [0].

Is facebook being down causing hacker news to get the hug of death??
First thing I’m wondering is how much garbage collection impacts the sequence timing. Love to see midi tools!
Reminds me of a coworker many years ago who wrote a script he called bash-reduce. Turned out not to be so simple in practice ;)
Great library, gets out of the way while preventing common mistakes. makes my work easier. Thank you gajus!!!
I learned so much from this article about how memory works when I was starting out, thanks phrack!
Interestingly enough, if you read most kkk or nazi pamphlets, they also don’t refer to themselves as hate groups, murderers etc.
Just pointing out your source has ties to a violent rightwing hate group. Not sure how what you wrote is a response to that.
What’s kind of funny is they are on good grounds w that definition of domestic terrorism. Plenty of environmental activists sitting in prison on terrorism charges for burning portapotties at construction sites etc
Careful of the source folks: Andy ngo is a grifter who is close with the proud boys, an organization whose members are currently facing charges or charged across the US with violent crimes ranging from battery to murder.

Something I've wanted to do for a while is build a library to parse and generate use lines / documentation that adheres to the posix useline spec (can't find the link at the moment) while also being able to idempotently (de)serialize and be descriptive enough to define arguments and flags in a way a human could easily understand. iirc the spec seemed probably too vague to just work with all the currently existing man pages, but it would be nice to have a spec all programs can follow that machines can parse on my os.
There are a lot of spreadsheets going around for this. I hope we can get it together for tooling to help manage this by the time the need for this arises.
Here's the idea that imo needs to reach critical mass in our industry in order to make progress on this issue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance
there are plenty of cities doing broken windows policing if that's the kind of place you'd rather be in.
data doesn't really bear out the effectiveness of broken windows theory
A lot of homeless I’ve spoken to in sf are from sf or have lived there a long time before being priced out of their home, and don’t have family or friends who can help them, or just don’t want to leave the only place they know well.
For anyone reading, I’m not responding to this as it doesn’t address anything I, the study, or the original article said.
was thinking more along the lines of this study, which shows that "right-wing anti-refugee sentiment on Facebook predicts violent crimes against refugees in municipalities with higher social media usage."
both of them pretty clearly are on our radar for their political speech (feminism is cancer, “free speech”, soros conspiracies, etc). Given what we know about social media and violence, entertainment value should be a secondary concern.
venezuela placed gold in the bank of england as a guarantee for a loan from germany to buy food from turkey. london is currently refusing to return it despite venezuela paying back germany. the gold has doubled in value and could be used to buy food. just another piece of evidence of economic pressure actively hurting people in venezuela.

I thought Dave Smith was primarily responsible? Just to put another notch in Silicon Valley’s belt, I guess.
reminiscing about hobbiton.org now :P
Think you mean oOooOO OooOoOOo
Perhaps a more reasonable explanation is that the student signed up for a class which covered political theories including a critique of national borders, and the student dismissed it, and therefore got a bad grade.
Anecdotally, I was a political science major and there are always a few loud people who came to argue and not learn.
Well it's not. Not objectively. Not in any sense. Only in abstract terms.
Vague memory hanging out with these folks while they were working on this that a lot of speedup was due to well placed inline assembly
