I get the joke. But it's not funny. I've read the same joke about 1000 times on various forums. It's just a somewhat mean statement with no humour at all.

It's about as funny as a joke about how Americans will invade your country, or italians will murder your cousin.

Pointless jokes about silly stereotypes do not belong on forums where people try to discuss reasonably about things.

25 million pretty normal people would not find your statement very nice. The U.S sends a lot of Viagra spam - but that does not mean that all the internet users are sending viagra spam.

Spam reaches a lot of people, because that's its intent. Extrapolating from spam is silly.

Thank goodness we live in the now. Imagine all you want to do is study mathematics, and people are constantly pushing you here and there because of the color of your skin.

Equality really is a great thing.

Getting the html/php code from my offline development tool into the server in an easy manner. I don't want to develop on the server, but I want to update only those files I changed.

In an easy manner, not with post commit scripts or so.

Let's look at the positive parts of this:

1. All oil companies are going to upgrade their safety standards

2. A lot of new knowledge on how to seal oil leaks has been brought into the world. This knowledge will have various applications, and if a bigger leak happens again, then there will be more preparation

Thesis and the GPL 16 years ago

Wordpress is a plug-in platform. You can load and execute plugins, you can load and execute themes. Those themes may call the wordpress API, but a theme + wordpress is not a new form or branch of wordpress. So it's not a derivative work in the sense that the GPL intends derivative works to be.

You can look at technicalities, like how wordpress designs its API, but those are not faults of the themes.

What is a theme actually? It's a look and feel, and this look and feel is not dependent on wordpress. A theme could exist across many different blogging platforms. Each platform will provide a different API for the theme to interact with it, but the look and feel of the theme has nothing to do with this interface. The theme is a conceptual abstraction that is in no way dependent on the existence of wordpress as another conceptual abstraction.

As such, I believe that the thesis theme should not be GPLed.

You may do Bingo Card Software brilliantly, A/B test everything down to the core, but in the end, no matter how brilliant it is, it's still just Bingo Card Software, and the market is limited.

If you pick something else with a much larger upper bound (like a game or so), when you spend all the time optimizing, you'll expand and expand your audience, and make more and more money.

The article makes a big, big mistake. The same proportion of black people left myspace, but if you are white on facebook, and your friends are mostly white, then facebook looks like a white place. Same with blacks - if you are black and your friends are mostly black on facebook, it looks like a black place.

Myspace looks "ghetto" simply because there are more minority bands, and so more minorities still maintain active facebook profiles.

I've found out one thing that will no doubt annoy a lot of people - if you are unhappy and depressed, because you don't have many challenges in life, or you are underchallenged or something (in school, work, etc), then try the game as a new fun activity. It will cure your depression, because it's so fundamentally animal, and it has the biggest pay off of any sport you could try.
