This is great, thank you.

It's becoming a pattern in the last few weeks. Fastmail manages my business email which is causing quite the annoyance.
According to the article, this is targeting multiple "privacy and security-centric email services". What are the odds this is a coordinated attempt to drive folks to less secure, or bigger corporate services?
Oh yeah, there are plenty of things that could be improved! Alas, getting any industry-wide traction on such solutions is beyond my pay grade (always failed).
Good question since we can see snow/rain lines slowly rise over the years. Certain ski resorts are in danger of losing a reliable snow pack. People will keep skiing, however, and our clientele puts in an incredible amount of effort to find snow to slide on.
The level of nerdiness required for software engineering translates well to tech bindings! I was an early importer/user of European gadgetry (they are way ahead of us due to the racing scene) so developed a fairly large mental repository of such minutiae. I personally answered all questions for the first several years and still do occasionally.
1. Opened a ski mountaineering shop (https://skimo.co/). I backcountry ski most mornings in winter/spring before we open at a casual 11am; work on the site in the summer.
2a. Sick of pointless discussions about languages/frameworks/architectures, none of it matters to low-traffic/low-tech business.
2b. Sick of meetings/arguments to decide what to build. Making business and tech decisions simultaneously is amazingly efficient; e.g. no wasting time over-engineering for a requirement that may not even be important.
2c. Wanted to try and combine/balance my skill with my passion.
The business is paying 3% in credit card fees to collect the tax. Quite a favor!
The unintended consequence may be to drive business offshore. The de minimis import duty was quadrupled to $800 a few years ago (meaning no duty while US retailers pay duty buying in bulk and incorporate into the US price) and this could be yet another advantage handed to sellers outside the country.
Does it float?
Ditto, this. Some recipients find mails in the spam folder, others claim they aren't even in there, but have simply vanished. All were accepted for delivery by gsmtp.
What species are you including in mankind? Cause homo sapiens (sapiens) haven't been around nearly that long...
How many users does the biggest public SVN repo have?
Still down after 10 days, must some really messed up servers.
$1 per MB per month for DB memory after 300. So if you wanted an 8GB db, you are looking at $7700/month. Ouch.
Um, the U.S. dollar was fully convertible to gold until 1971. Since gold has risen from $35 to $1500 per ounce.
The number of jquery file upload plugins is astounding. This looks like a decent one, though makes the job of picking one that much harder...one of the drawbacks of jquery's open plugin ecosystem.
Who wants to write the blog post reviewing and testing them all in various browsers? I will donate $5!
And on a pedantic note, presumably your cursor would be at the end of the text you find yourself typing, and thus require backspace not delete.
Just admit you're doing it for the chicks!
How about a comparison to a known standalone unvirtualized box?
He should only have to pay self employment taxes on self employment income, which at $1500 & 15% indicates he was bringing in 10k / year in google ads, which seems reasonable with those traffic levels. That is hardly breaking even unless he was running it on a Cray.
The sorry fact is while you may think your tax rate is 15% or 25%, there is always that extra 15%, even for the employed. In employee's case, they pay half (FICA) and the employer pays half, which of course reduces real earning potential by that amount. It's a scam to talk about taxes rates and only quote the federal income tax rate.
yeah, i meant anyone with a business...exactly the people that don't have time for the paperwork. like many of us on HN.
I was shocked to read about this requirement snuck into the health care bill. It is insane.
Can you imagine anyone who buys a computer needing to send HP or Dell a W-9 to request their tax id, then waiting for the response, and then filing a 1099? I can't imagine what was going through the lawmaker's heads.
Pretty much all goods would start to be priced at $599.
