This publication was started by Nathan Jurgenson, an American sociologist who was hired by Snapchat out of grad school as a sort of resident theorist. (He was a student of George Ritzer, of "McDonaldization" fame, and applied a similar conceptual framework to digital media, "playbor" etc. Jurgenson also cofounded a conference called Theorizing the Web that in its later years received funding from Snapchat.)

I believe Lobste.rs is a good citizen and sends a webmention. Other services could follow suit. There'd be no need for an additional product then.

I'm not sure that's true anymore. The one thing that I find interesting about the R community (being at home in Pythonland myself) is the availability of great teaching and learning resources. At least that's the case in the social sciences, where R has pretty strong adoption.

I must admit I simply didn't realize the pulseaudio commands would still work. I figured they wouldn't because they were no longer installed after disabling pulseaudio and switching to pipewire. That's why I was trying to make things work with the pw-* commands and failing.

I recently made the switch in NixOS and found it pretty painless. Can't get my mic to work in Firefox though, and the other day I was looking through the manual trying to figure out how to use my HDMI screen's speakers rather than the built-in one and couldn't find the right incantation. Sounds like such rough corner cases will be a thing of the past soon. Congrats to the dev team!

That part about how some people have strong opinions about what absolutely needs to be in a proposal, but if you look at a handful of successful ones, there's no clear winning recipe, really resonated, having recently gone through this for a similar ERC competition.

The part about finding >10 typos is pretty much my nightmare, and I appreciate the candor with which you share that and other parts of your experience.
