Looks like https://www.byte.com/ has changed so many hands

I signed an enterprise deal a week before the announcement. Here is what Heroku provides that I can't find anywhere else.

1. Deal under the SF Master Contract (I have one AE/SE to yell at and am treated like a major customer due to our overall spend. Heroku is only 1% of our overall SF spend)

2. Best support for C# apps

3. Heroku Connect provides a Postgres endpoint for SF Data (No need to mess with API's or Mulesoft)

4. Applink allows me to call apps running on Heroku (No need to mess with API's or Mulesoft)

Right now, I am sticking with Heroku.

I know most of their product team was gutted, so I don't know what is going to happen long term. Time will tell (And yes, I have started looking at alternatives)

PS: If you know of a provider who can provide all the above 4, let me know

Where did you find tha 19” rack unit. Never found one with 3 Eithernet ports config.

Well I can live with out realtime but prefer some thing that runs every few hours.

My primary concern is some one else in the company erasing files by mistake or a hacker erasing / encrypting my files. Github is a perfect soltuion as the files are imutable ...but any one who has my user id / pw can go and erase.

Putting a server with a Verbatim Blu-ray Recordable in a remote data center and backing up to that. The only issue is the advance investment on a server and also the max capacity of 100GB.

Ideal service is some thing like Amazon S3 but the files cant be erased at all (The only way files can be erased is when I stop paying)

Is the https://domains.google.com/ service going away ? if so why are they still selling domains ?

Spend some time on https://www.webhostingtalk.com/ and you will find a lot of info. For example https://www.fdcservers.net/ can give you 10TB storage and 100GB bw for around $300....but keep in mind the lower the price you pay, the lower the quality...just like any other products.

Can I put an instance to sleep and just pay for the storage ?Could not find the info on your site.

Also for Windows instance, what do people use to connect. RDP seems slow. My primary use case is software development trying to learn CUDA programing.

Do they have servers in US ? Who would be the Hertzner equvelent in US when it comes to low cost dedicated hosting

I am on Aderole, and it works for about 6 hours. During this time I can concentrate a lot, but can't listen to any music or any sound, it just annoys me.

I put on a noise canceling headphone with out music (The bose seem to do a good job)

My biggest issue is starting on a task. I am very good at To-Do lists, breaking down the tasks, time boxing etc etc..but when it comes to doing the actual task (and this can be anything) I get the feeling like my hands a tied. Its like my brain saying "no i am not going to let you work on that".

First of all I do not mind paying for it, end of the day I do not want to set up things (Server, Docker etc), I just played with it for 10 min.

1. For some reason "Syntax Error" kept popping up. 2. The UI need some work...look at Lucid Chart 3. Having an API will so we can call from other apps 4. Just PNG is not enough, may be add SVG

I am happy to get on a 30 min zoom call and discuss all this as I tried to create some thing like this using DS3 last year. Feel free to ping me at @jayonsoftware

Get https://www.speedtest.net/apps/cli , run it on a cron job, out put can be json or csv . What I like on this is i can set different servers. - Jay

I doubt any one want to create an office suite, the last people who tried to do this was Salesforce (with quip buy) and it's now a niche product. No one has an integrated product like Office 365.

Considering the iPhone has a good camera, has any one used https://www.elgato.com/en/epoccam ?

Lookup groups on Meetup.com, when I first moved to a new city, did not know anyone, started going to meetup.com, then I started my own meetup group. Lot of work, but have built a good list of good friends. Making and maintaining friends is work, you need to put time into it. No one comes out of the blue and want to be your friend (well unless you are rich or hot)...but I know many hot/rich people who are lonely too.

Cruise will be a tech provider like Waymo. Tesla is the only company that has an end to end product from software to hardware..think Apple.

Having worked for GM I can say, one of the best things GM did was after they bought Cruise they kept it as a separate company and away from GM bureaucratic style of management where everything comes to die.

2 GB / 1 vCPU about $20. On DO you can get 4 GB / 2 vCPUs plus 80 GB storage and 4 TB on Transfer for $20. (Same with linode.com, upcloud.com)
