I can't recommend django-ninja enough. It's an easy to use, extremely fast, typed API for django. I've found it to be better in almost all aspects when compared to djangorestframework.
It's gaining popularity but is still widely unknown.

Great feedback! Comments like these are what brings me to HN each day. Yeah, the backstory is certainly a bit more nuanced but we were trying to break it down into a piece that's maybe easier to digest.
We were working on an idea in its very early stages that wasn't completely fleshed out. We were trying to find markets, gauge interests, were building POCs for it, talked to potential customers. Going through this stage means constantly re-evaluating if you have enough confidence that this idea in its current form is going to make it. If your team is going to be able to make it. I still have confidence that the idea we were working on is going to make it in some form but maybe at a different angle. Maybe from a different company and maybe more as a feature than as a standalone product. As avid users and fans of Loom, at some point our confidence in building an open source screen recording and sharing tool just reached a tipping point that lead us into building it. We were using it on a daily basis and saw the need for companies to have full control on their data.
Thinking about other stories from founders, I'd say it's not that uncommon to see them pivot. I have no numbers on this but I have seen quite a few companies that came out of HN with a completely different idea than what they were initially applying for.
Would love to write more on this, but it's already super late (or early) here in Germany.
Currently, you can record your microphone. For audio that's currently playing on your device: depends on the platform. macOS needs an extra (software) audio device to loop the audio in order to be recorded. We are not quite there yet but that's going to be one of the first things to come in the next couple of weeks.
Good catch, I knew someone would notice! We wanted to be prepared for the HN crowd and hadn't had that much confidence in our own backend just yet.

Accordably was our lockdown project and we built it to scratch our own itch. This problem was something we came across while consulting, as some clients were getting too consumed by what their competition was doing.
For our own products, we keep tabs on what the competition is doing to stay up to date on the industry. However, this is tedious and very time consuming, so we built Accordably to automate it.
We think that it’s most important to focus on your own product. But taking a look at the competition every now and then can give you valuable information on the market in general and also on what works for your competitors and what doesn’t.
After setting up your competitors, Accordably will send you an email report every week, which just take a couple of minutes to go over. This is all the time that we wanted to give our competitors, so we made sure that the email reports cut right to the point.
For the full picture, we’ve also built a dashboard which allows us to sort posts by engagement/time and to filter posts by source.

I’m the opposite. I love to work on side projects, often getting carried away for several weeks/months until I finish them.
Once they are “complete”, I’m loosing interest and get carried away on other things, often times I don’t even publish them anywhere.

Sure, but we are talking about a twofold trust problem here. Trust in an entity (external company vs internal developer) and trust in the work itself.
While I do see your point about trusting an external company which is specialized in the problem I’m trying to solve more than my own developers, I still have to transfer my highly sensitive data to them for which I have to trust them even more.
GitHub for sensitive data? Why would I trust an external company obfuscating my sensitive data and not my developers doing this for me?
