Cloudflare can and must decrypt the ClientHello for the sites it serves in order to actually serve the traffic. Using ECH with CF means you use their ECH domain and their keys.

This is the first time I see a compelling argument for using dynamic languages for writing web backends. Not that I actually write web backends, so maybe this is all obvious to real practicioners. Thanks for sharing!

Is Immich good at finding duplicates? And generally cleaning up a dump of photos? Or am I better off using Digikam for that before importing to Immich?

How about writing new things at the top of the file? If you use dates as sections you can still add new things at the bottom of the current day, but you always have current day at top.

That’s a good point. I do think there still is some space to focus on just the coding as an engineer, but with AI the space is getting smaller.

Official standard defines around 8k characters in modern usage. I’d guesstimate native highly educated speaker recognizes maybe 6-7k at most.

Great piece that takes a step back from the concrete and looks at the situation through a broader lense. Really enjoyed the writing!

I still haven’t settled on what to do next, but for sure I will continue with educational material for now as I don’t have concrete goals to contribute to “real world” projects (yet). I also like having some structured path layed out for me, it makes it easier work on it every other day and not get stuck wondering what best to do next.

As for more serious projects I am interested in and could be a potential follow up to contribute to a bigger kernel, there are SerenityOS and RedoxOS.

I found the instructions for the labs clear and at the right level of detail for me that I did not have questions about what was required for the solution. They have a hints section that really get you started enough in my opinion, sometimes I looked at those a bit too early in retrospect. Then for understanding the part of the codebase that the lab was extending the book was sufficient as extra material for me. There are even lectures online for the 2019 version, but the theoretical side was something I had at least familiarity with before, so I did not watch those.

While I agree with the sentiment, I also struggle to find the right approach of peeling back abstractions and understanding the lower levels. Learning how something works under the hood takes time and can be a big commitment. How to do decide when to look below the abstraction? I’m most often interested in how things work under the hood, but I can’t always dig deep, which does bother me.
