You say it sarcastically, but any law enforcement agency is an enemy of the cartels goals and therefore at risk in the event of intervention.

This is turning into a pedantic argument. I’m fine entertaining the nuance of language if your mind is open as well and you aren’t just trying to discuss me to death.

I specifically mentioned __this thread__. I generally have an open ear to other perspectives, but just like my sympathy, my patience is limited (particularly in narrow contexts). You may be a genuine soul, but you are mistaken if you think sympathy or empathy don’t take energy. Surely you don’t think it is possible for humans to have endless energy. Let’s not throw good energy after bad. If we spend our energy on things that don’t benefit others, we are not spending it on somethings that matters.

Maybe we just have 2 different philosophies of life and you are more likely to walk in a labyrinth these days than I am. Once upon a time, I would’ve been beside you, but life has led me to make different decisions.

I use the clipboard regularly and do not use software I don’t trust. If I do run risky software and am compromised, I understand that I took the risk and am responsible for leaving my front door open. Separately but related, I am in favor of severe punishment of the perpetrators of scams and exploitation.

If you want to have walls put around your software, then you have to build them.

I admit I had a knee jerk reaction because I’m frustrated general with a pattern of adults wanting to abdicate responsibility. I apologize for my irreverence. Maybe there is a way the OS can offer these protections you want without nerfing the rest of the world and putting an invisible ceiling on everybody. I think the “Run as Administrator” option in the context menu is pretty elegant. Maybe there could be a “Run in a container” version that excludes access to things like clipboard, external directories, and other non-essential assets. If that is enough to stem the desire to spread the “protective” reach of the machines of loving grace, then you have my vote.

What I DON’T want is to be prompted by the OS every time I want to paste something into a 3rd party app. Think about how much more momentum that gives the platforms to portray 3rd party software as potentially untrustworthy. At the risk of mind-reading, I don’t think that is a world that you would want to live in. I hope that people are more considerate of the potential downsides before they wish for these changes.

What I said is not equivalent to either of those. I wouldn’t say anybody “had this coming” because that is pretty callous. But I would say my sympathy is not endless and is reserved for those who are not victims of their own footguns.

It was only like 1 year ago that the loudest complaint about macOS were complaining about needing to click Allow in a new dialog when they use Terminal (or various other apps).

I’ve always thought about the “hold your breath” function during sniper shooting in video games was to prevent the mechanical movement of breathing to keep the gun steady, not to increase focus or improve decision-making. I would think a lack of oxygen has a negative effect on both focus and decision-making.

I’m not affiliated with Starlink nor trying to defend them, but I would argue the shipping estimate comes from a black box and is totally unrelated to the AI agent. My shipping estimate in the app said expected to ship between June 22 and July 2, but it’s actually arriving tomorrow. I’m happy with it in my case, it I could understand if coming outside of the window (either early or late) is frustrating.

Now that iPhone has switched to USB-C, I can plug in my Apple Extended Keyboard directly without needing a dongle. It’s like magic.

I see a lot of negativity in regards to using AI as a customer service agent. I have only spoken with 1 and that was calling Starlink customer support. It was easily better than 95% of customer support experiences I’ve had. My guess is the bad experiences have to do with bad execution. I’m sure some companies think they can just plug in AI and their job is done. Obviously that is wrong, but done right, the experience is far better than the situation we have today. I never have to repeat myself and if it’s tied in with your account specifically, it’s like getting escalated to a level 3 support rep immediately.

That would be very interesting. I would love to see how that would play out (particularly with California and DC), but it would kill the political balance in both countries. I think having to consider opposing viewpoints is probably paramount to how we have both flourished historically.

During the “winter”, sure, but it dumps rain during the same and there are flash floods occasionally. I agree with the parent comment that Miami is a great area to test - especially given that the bad weather is seasonal. They can run 24/7 during the good weather seasons.

Also, the drivers in Miami are a bit more unpredictable than the average driver around the country in my experience, so good challenge cases for self-driving development.

Would be interesting to see if widespread (or at least high volume) adoption that is trading based on these signals leads to a more efficient market on net. Of course there will be plenty more attempts at manipulation, but maybe orders of magnitude good players over bad players once the dust settles.
