This seems to be some self-help for the well-off (and their kids) to not feel bad about such dependence, but totally ignores the large population whose parents aren't affluent enough to support their children. Or may even need support from their children. I don't think the feefees of the well off is the gravest issue here.

More or less the definition of a state is that it upholds the monopoly of violence within its borders. In modern liberal states that monopoly comes with extensive regulations on how, when and by whom violence should be used. This is called the rule of law. The regulations are usually broadly enumerated in the constitution or similar basic law, and in more detail in ordinary legislation. In democratic states these are ideally determined by the population, usually via some representatives.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm stating the obvious, but this is the rationale why many people think that some powers may be granted to the institution with the sole legitimate power to force you to comply at gunpoint.
The government is an institution protecting us from commercial interests. The government also protects against e.g. abject poverty and dying of easily treatable medical conditions. And also upholds e.g. property rights, which you probably hold absolutely necessary.
Society works on balance of power. The government is part of that balance. Ideally the government serves the interests of people, that's the democracy part. In practice that's far from perfect, but it's still not some absolute evil constantly repressing us.
This is not about government reading messages, it's about how large social media companies present content. The European part probably is that these two things are not seen as the same thing. Corporations and individuals don't enjoy the same rights and freedoms in this mindset.
Many, including me, don't see e.g. personal privacy and freedom as the same case as regulating commercial activities. In fact, large business interests are well capable of authoritarian power themselves.
GDPR ship has largely sailed too. E.g. the illegal Pay or Okay is widespread, including in Instagram.

The use started to decline when Google started the extreme marketing campaign of Chrome around 2010 or so. All Google services had huge banners and included all sorts of dark patterns to get people to install it.
TBF, Chrome probably also had some better features and performance over FF, but I don't think most people think much about their browser quality.

Brain's information flow also isn't just through direct neuron-to-neuron connections. Firing also releases neuromodulators into the extracellular space which affects how other neurons operate. Furhermore neuron connection architecture is very different between brain and feedforward ANNs, with the former exhibiting a lot of recurrent connections.

I highly doubt this. A lot of people think stuff like juice smoothies, granolas or dates are healthy. Or more generally organic or grassfed or "no added sugar" or "high-protein" high-sugar or "unprocessed" stuff.
People are actively misinformed about what's healthy by a constant bombardment of ads, fads and "common sense".

I use LaTeX daily and hate it with a passion. I kinda lost all hope when ArXiv decided to do the HTML support by hacking a LaTeX to HTML conversion.
We already have a very powerful layouting engine: the web browser. The only missing piece is printing/pagination, for which there was some CSS Paged Media progress, but that stalled.
However, why the hell are we even doing paged media? For screen viewing it's strictly worse, and very few people print papers anymore. And even for those HTML pages print passably enough.
There are also the "canonical" nicknames that are not obvious to non-Russian speakers. E.g. Nikolai is Kolja.

I think there's gonna be (or perhaps already is) a huge demand for evaling individual systems. Many countries are starting to adopt some criteria for LLM usage for public use, and I doubt govs are gonna develop in-house knowhow for this. These will likely form some kinds of "independent auditor" models, as the system provider has too strong conflicts of intetest.
It's probably not gonna be exactly glorious work, but designing expert evals settings and collecting and crunching the data for quality assurance and control is going to be needed.

I didn't mean corner cases like that. I mean stuff that has no practical consequences, at least for most practical use.
E.g. whether or not Navier-Stokes can form singularities doesn't really change how you analyze fluid dynamics in engineering. This doesn't mean it is not a mathematically important question worth extensive study, but it's not relevant for practitioners.
I don't recall the details anymore, and the work never amounted to anything, but generally it was about finding expressions for some properties of the visual flow field under curvilinear motion.
I can't really say if the problem was with me or GA. Probably more like GA didn't end up providing tools for my level of math skills to solve the problem. But neither did the the traditional branches.
I tried to solve some engineering problems with PGA few years ago. Seemed to work OK up to a point, and at least for me was easier to approach than say Lie algebra or differential geometry.
TFA denigrates papers and websites that are "non-theoretical" or "trivial". As a user of the formalisms, these kinds of materials are exactly what I need. I don't care about proofs or theoretically problematic corner cases that "real mathematics" seems to be almost exclusively interested in.
I did hit a wall quite soon with GA, and got a feel that it may indeed be overhyped, but at least the scene seems to be interested about applied use.
There seems to be similar debate about nonstandard calculus. For my modest use it has provided some tools that can give me results that I don't know how to get with epsilon-delta etc. I don't really care if I don't "really understand" it because the underlying proofs need some heavy machinery. I don't understand those for standard calculus either, and in applied use you either manipulate infinitesimals without any proper algebra, or just hope what you need is in some table.
I can't comment on deeper theoretical or philosophical questions about these, and I don't really care about them. But to me maths communication often seems analogous to making people learn turing machines and lambda calculus before they are allowed to program in Javascript.
I don't think the author necessarily disagrees with me much, but this is maybe a kinda mini rant from a perspective of someone who is just an "end user" of mathematics.
My company has just turned off all ip6 connectivity for its corporate laptops because it’s considered a security risk. I disagree, but I do agree that having 4 and 6 is a higher risk than 4 alone or 6 alone, and 6 alone sadly still doesn’t work reliably.
I had a very concreteish security risk with IPv6 and openvpn. At least in Debian config openvpn tunneled only IPv4 by default. I only noticed this by being surprised I got results tailored to my origin country instead of the VPN out node country.
It's eternal (dual stack) paper cuts like this why just turning IPv6 off makes life a lot easier.

A lot of models have negative AA-Omniscience Index.
They also do have AA-Omniscience Accuracy and AA-Omniscience Hallucination Rate that handle "I don't knows" differently.
