A ‘Byte’ is not a concrete thing and the fact you think it is speaks to the degree to which you have immersed yourself in a mental model which thinks of ‘information’ as if it is a real concrete thing, to the extent that you don’t even realize the levels of conceptual abstraction you needed to build in order to internalize what a ‘byte’ is.

What even is a protocol? What is a host? What is a ‘stream of octets’? Wiki helpfully tells you octets are also known as ‘bytes’.
Neuschwanstein was completed in 1886. Undeniably a very archetypal castle. So much so that of course it was the basis for Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle, which opened at Disneyland in Anaheim in 1955 - at which time the castle it took its inspiration from was not even 70 years old.
Now Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle is itself over 70 years old, making it arguably just as much a historical 'castle' as Neuschwanstein.

The ability of LLMs to solve problems is not confined to the training data they ingested. Claude knows how to read mathematical papers because of its training data, but it can and will pull in literature relevant to a specific problem into its context.
We really need to stop thinking about LLM training data as the knowledgebase they build from and instead consider it more the skillset they start with.

I still can’t help but read most of this article as a story of a guy trying to prove his theory that corners aren’t actually dark, taking photos and plotting luminance graphs of corners, repeatedly getting these strong vee-shaped graphs that indicate that the surface darkens linearly towards the corner, and just gathering more and more pictures until eventually he finds some which show flat luminance lines, at which point he declares victory because he’s proven that corners don’t darken.
Without seeing the Fable trace that produced this, claiming it amounts to ‘advanced brute force’ seems like a leap.

The homes architects build for themselves are fascinating studies. Walter Gropius’s house in Lincoln, Massachusetts is similarly human in scale with incredible attention to detail.
Like the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Oak Park there’s something a little underwhelming about them at first to a modern sensibility - they feel like spaces you are familiar with from modern houses (albeit often realized with greater skill than is typical - both houses make incredible use of their window perspectives for example). But then you need to recognize how far ahead of their time they were; Gropius’s aesthetic was his invention; that you can replicate it in your own home out of an ikea catalog today is because of him.

So.. I know many people can read hiragana, but it is a very annoying habit of people who know a bit of Japanese to post un-transliterated Japanese text on an English language forum. For someone who doesn’t know Japanese your post reads ‘IIRC it’s a popular TTS character called ??NOT?FOR??YOU??’ - it communicates no information.
Writing ‘a popular TTS character called ずんだもん (zundamon)’ takes you very little time and gives readers a little more to work with, and which they can use to Google English language resources on the subject if they are interested.
Weeks come first. Electing to choose one of the weekdays and making it a ‘sabbath’ or similar comes next.

The entire advertising industry is predicated on the principle of preempting personal preferences with paid placements. (Sorry, didn’t start out that sentence expecting to alliterate it all but it just came out like that).
Literally every ad you see is a business deciding ‘instead of showing you what you came here to see, here’s something else, which I am showing you only to benefit my business.’
I’m not sure what limiting principle you can apply to limit the ability of businesses to show users other things the user might be interested in that wouldn’t also basically ban advertising too.

Sorry about that. To be fair most watchmakers were already put out of work by quartz oscillators and integrated circuits in the 1980s.
