I think there’s a few of us who appreciate you being up front. I’d question the intent and why it was a mistake, especially when the commit[0] message reverting said functionality states “widespread criticism” citing this very HN article makes it look seemingly like the revert is due to negative PR opposed to a mistake.

I’m very much an Odoo guy who has dabbled with Django (and notably, celery in the past) but as someone who makes huge use of the Odoo OCA queue module[0], I never understood why Django never made use of the Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY to offload tasks. Maybe this is my misunderstanding as I’m pretty green with the Django ecosystem as a whole.

I’m always fascinated by how heat pumps (or reverse cycle units for Australians) are not the defacto standard in other countries and somehow come up for debate in the US. I remember watching one of the many TechnologyConnections videos on the subject and was wondering although interesting, what is with this focus on heat pumps being better than XYZ? Is the resistance to change really that great?

Being Australian, at least in Victoria, I don’t know of many houses that have gas heating. I also think it’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen household evap cooling, which I find has slowly been replaced by reverse cycle units given the climate has changed for us in VIC that the humidity increase over the years tends to make the evap units far less effective.

In my 40s and I’ve recently been diagnosed with inattentive adhd. TFA makes a lot of sense to me given I’m one of the rare people at my company who commutes to the office every day even though we are an in-person optional workplace. Whenever I’ve had to WFH, I’ve struggled massively to gain an initial focus. Although medication has helped tremendously, I still feel much more productive in an office setting.

Can relate. I’ve recently taken ownership of a new work laptop with Ubuntu (with “experimental” zfs) and using dedupe on my nix store has been an absolute blessing!

I’ve blocked out 2 4 hour blocks for some work mandated sabbaticals for months now. It’s been great! People now remember the days and which block they can’t contact me, and work around it. It’s become such a successful thing that we recommend this to others within my team.

+1 for Frigate and Reolink. I have it running in a Proxmox VM on an old dell r710 (yes, it’s sucks watts and needs replacing) but all said, Frigate, is, amazing! The ease of integration with HA is equally great.

Amazing! I love everything about this. However, also being in Australia, I would have tried my luck with Consumer Affairs. Our new house was equipped with a gas boosted solar hot was service. The gas booster died a year out of warranty and instead of replacing just their proprietary booster unit, they said the whole system would need to be replaced at a cost to me of $10'000+. A few weeks of back and forth (and limited hot water) with consumer affairs made enough noise and the company caved and replaced the booster unit for free.

Yes, it was out of warranty, but it's abhorrent that anyone should have to purchase a whole new anything when a small portion of it can be replaced independently.

That position of the couch infuriating! And yes I bet you moved that lovely looking couch back after the photo :)

Our company is in panic mode. 15 machines blue screened for no apparent reason and stuck in boot loop. I’m a gloating Linux user :)
