Have built many pipelines integrating LLMs to drive real $ results. I think this article boils it down too simply. But i always remember, if the LLM is the most interesting part of your work, something is severely wrong and you probably aren’t adding much value. Context management based on some aspects of your input is where LLMs get good, but you need to do lots of experimentation to tune something. Most cases i have seen are about developing one pipeline to fit 100s of extremely different cases; LLM does not solve this problem but basically serves as an approximator for you to discretize previously large problems in to some information sub space where you can treat the infinite set of inputs as something you know. LLMs are like a lasso (and a better/worse one than traditional lassos depending on use case) but once you get your catch you still need to process it, deal with it progammatically to solve some greater problem. I hate how so many LLM related articles/comments say “ai is useless throw it away dont use it” or “ai is the future if we dont do it now we’re doomed lets integrate it everywhere it can solve all our problems” like can anyone pick a happy medium? Maybe thats what being in a bubble looks like

I will add my experience. I graduated with a CS degree from a well known state school a few months ago, I have been applying to so many jobs I lost count, but after being ghosted to even entry level jobs I have pretty much given up on my CS dreams… why should I basically work myself to death for a field that seems like it doesn’t even care about me? Note I had two internship-style experiences while in school, making up the significant portion of my resume. I’m happier working at a restaurant and enjoying my free time for the moment, touching computers on the side but more importantly pursuing my non-computer interests. This won’t work forever as I plan to have children but for now I am existing and happy doing other things. and i am putting a lot of my free time in to convicing my peers still in school that their degree won’t be worth sh!t when they graduate

We’re doomed. How can i find any faith in humanity when a genocide is happening before our eyes. I suppose what I'm wondering is why specifically the allocator you were using before was causing this fragmentation... isn't that a bigger problem than you're making it sound?

Also, what else can an allocator do other than coalescing free blocks to decrease fragmentation? Does it involve occasional checks to defragment the heap ie moving separated blocks so they are adjacent?
