This reminds me so much of Maggie Appleton blog post on "Home-Cooked Software and Barefoot Developers" [1]
We have so many people who are so excellent and fast and developing nowadays that we can even afford the time to build things for our community, friends and even just for ourselves.
It has probably always been like this, but I am just personally observing a higher-degree of people doing and talking about it. Even just the small-web/neocities bobble points into this.
Original article has bit more data and graphs https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/teslas...
Is it possible to fight Internet addiction...
Yes!
...without banning stuff?
What incentive do companies have to do this? It seems quite profitable for them?
I am quite strict here with my comment; but honestly, I can't see much reason other than making new products that are made as an "anti" movement, but companies will just find new ways to get people hooked -- because it is profitable for them to do so.
Do it for the destination, not the journey
Love the irony of this post.
Switched from Gitlab to Forgejo at work and it is working fantastic for us. I am also using at home.
Using both container registry and self-hosted runners, etc.
I was personally very frustrated with ACL and generally inheritance rules in gitlab and it is much more sensible and easy in Forgejo.

This happens regardless as people leaving companies and whatever they produced. You will find so many examples of code out there in production and works through hopes and dreams.
And you know what? If it works it works - regardless how it was produced.
Been gaming since forever and in the last 5 years I started getting nausated 70% of games I have played (also old once that were fine) and generally this is also what is working for me -- just a little bit here and there it gets a lot better.
I understand the article talks against this, but I am grateful that I am able to do this, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone.
This post is filled with important details, it is crazy.
Scripted Pipelines in Jenkins are also using CPS in Groovy! https://plugins.jenkins.io/workflow-cps/#plugin-content-tech...
Arguably a lot of people consider it too cold most of the year. But otherwise I would say that when the weather is good the water is filled quite up with people at a comfortable level!
index.html and rest of project is rooted in well.. root. And simple push deploy your root git repo to your /var/www or whatever.
Ex. you use github pages and do homemade brew html or whatever that is not static-generator that outputs to a subfolder.
I really liked Google Timeline, but started going away from it (in my de-google phase right now), it was nice to go back to when I had been biking a specific place in town, but couldn't remember exactly where.
And I have also been doing some PolarSteps for quite a while, but wanted to start making my own travel books now.
This seems like a perfect tool for both of this!
(iOS user, so seems like the space a little more limited)
I agree with the sentiment that you should simply reduce and focus. With that in mind, I would also encourage you to write down things related to the interests that you don't give any focus to — inevitably, they will come up. Random ideas, articles, people talking about it, etc. And I think they needs to be processed to get them out of your system.
Personally, I enjoy at least writing down the ideas, passions, or motivations I have towards them somewhere and collecting them. Then, if the time comes when I choose that interest or topic, I already have a good bunch of well-marinated ideas. Of course, that can also overwhelm me, but then you just go to step 1 again!
Great examples, thanks for sharing all of them! Love Chris’ real life commits messages. Find them very nice just to get general overview of what was going on in your life at the time.
Luckily should be pretty easy to modify to get the same result!

There are loads of activity on perma- and frugal computing on https://merveilles.town/
#indieweb movement also has a lot of roots in similar ideologies with people going into lowtech -- so I would also check that out, but that is a pretty massive hole to dig into already :-)
Tangible related, but are you hosting your website on both Neocities and Nekoweb or just one of them? Because I see your profile both places.
Check out this one that I discovered the other day! https://www.dialup.cafe/~vga256/
I meant pr. timezone toggle! The current one is global if I am not mistaken?
So I could have my own local time in military time and the one(s) I am converting to, in AM/PM.
Would love to see pr. timezone AM/PM and Military time toggle. I personally not figured out how to mentally convert from one to another and usually this is one of my challenges as well.
I support the link sharing as well. Perfect for events, meetings and the like.
So good, very easy to use and not to much other stuff going on. Great job and super domainname.
What is holding me back from getting N100 for Media Playback is mainly that there is only support for 2x SATA ports.
Of course you can just get some PCI board to help you with more disks, but I was hoping to remove that in terms of space.
If it is sponsored Ads, then I presumre that parented comments thinks the price is not good enough to actually provide, as it does not provide enough money for creators to not have sponsored ads as well.
Usually something like volumetric data, animations, or other forms of data packed into something the GPU can swallow. I am not sure why you would apply the filters to those kinds.
If we get human attention back in favour of the economy, then I think that’s a pretty good deal.
Random bathroom selfie seems pretty standard.
Missing ton of console exporting, Xbox Series, One, WinGDK, PS4, PS5, etc. And sure there might be some beta out there but we need proper support :)
I have been to a few talks and likely about the footprint of making and running modern video games (and companies).
It is on my mind, and I have become more aware about how game design and implementations can facilitate over consumption. Small example is to have vsync enabled by default for all users, just so you don’t have users GPUs spinning at max speed.
I am not actively persuading it at the moment. But I have been aware about and been sharing knowledge with people of those ideas.
One nice side effect of reducing carbon footprint of these things is that it usually becomes cheaper to run as well :) similar to how accessibility seems to benefit a lot more people than what you target.
