Engineers use their ingenuity. That’s it.

If physical engineers understood everything then standards would not have changed in many decades. Safety factors would be mostly unnecessary. Clearly not the case.

It reads like a sales call where they’re getting customer pushback and responding with something quantitative - not a good opener at all, especially for this audience. The GPT tone pushes it over the edge.

What they built looks great and I don’t disagree with their take in substance, but you get one chance to make your open source announcement good - don’t blow it like this.

Yes I think that’s what it is - only the writing on the map uses a horizontal baseline whereas the real script uses a sloping baseline so it looks weird here.

There’s still zero evidence to support their claims. Publishing an editorial saying “trust me bro” doesn’t enhance their veracity. It is physically impossible for a rifle round moving at high velocity to cause the minimal injuries shown in those x-rays. Such injuries are consistent only with indirect fire, such as a round fired into the air falling back down and striking some distant innocent on the head at low velocity.

What’s shocking is that the NYT won’t admit they fell for a hoax but instead are claiming they have ironclad evidence of genocide yet they are just… sitting on it because it’s gruesome for their readers to see? If that’s true then it is a staggering moral failure akin to being an accessory to the crime. Fortunately thats’s not the case because it’s a hoax.

Had we never received foreign investments to begin with we would certainly be worse off, as indeed we were in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

There's been consensus among pretty much every party in my lifetime around supporting "growth", "investment", number go up.

Yes most U.K. governments have talked about fine talk but other than Thatcher, failed to actually deliver on securing enough investment. It’s not that the investments are bad, it’s that they have been decreasing for 25 years:

It’s funny that you mention ARM because it was created under Thatcher back when the U.K. was willing to start businesses. Yes it should never have been sold.

In the U.K. it means taking all your thinking cues from the intellectual elite that orbit Oxford and Cambridge. The sort of people that typically end up as BBC presenters and professors. Viewing yourself as a member of a distinct group of intellectuals that “get it”.
