Can you point to a flaw in the cryptography? Otherwise, while I understand where you're coming from I think your criticism is misguided. Cryptography is very interesting and is fun to implement. It is also difficult to get right. Does that mean hobbyists shouldn't implement it? No, it just means that you shouldn't expect security from hobbyist implementations. I find it disconcerting to see comment after comment on HN tearing people down for working on projects that interest them.

The point of criticism is to help people improve. By effectively saying, "You're not cut out for crypto, don't even bother," you do a disservice to others and contribute negativity that HN doesn't need.

I thought so too, but then

A) I found one.

B) I enjoyed being with her enough that I made more time for her.

Generalizing from my experience, if you just take a chance you'll find that you have more time than you think and that the time you aren't spending on other things isn't missed.

Regardless, it is surely better to bet on the stock market continuing to rise, even if more slowly than in the past, than it is to bet that the startup you're working for is going to be successful.

Regarding super-sonic flight in particular. IIRC, the main reason for Concorde service being discontinued was the lack of people willing to pay for it. Further, when door-to-door times are extended by excessive security and waiting at the airport it doesn't really matter if you've cut your in-air time in half.

I'd be really excited if someone airline offered pilotless aircraft. I think this is technically feasible now. I know that we are currently capable of landing planes autonomously currently. Plus this would reduce door-to-door time as well since you'd reduce the need for long security lines. After all, if there's no cockpit to hijack what is the use of screening for potential hijackers?
