Often overlooked but electric buses are very heavy. Here in my small hometown they visibly started decaying the road infrastructure super fast in many places since they got introduced. Not impossible to patch up, but not a negligible cost of moving to the tech.

On paper, yeah. Sadly the threshold is very low, and you get hit with a brutal regressive tax immediately after you pass it (obligatory lump-sum social security tax).

Just throwing this out there. I'm a homebody living in a climate where the weather is kind of miserable for half of the year so would rather just execrise at home, and I've gotten fantastic mileage out of resources on the r/bodyweightfitness subreddit. I just have a pull-up bar and some gymnastic rings hanging from it. Been doing something very closely based on the Recommended Routine for almost 10 years now, on and off (mostly off, to be honest). It keeps me sane and healthy, or at least definitely more so if I didn't bother with it.

Piracy 2 years ago

Are you able to name 3 examples of this happening?

Godot 4.0 Stable 3 years ago

Godot 4.0 doesn't support C# on the web and mobile, one of those fabled "Godot $nextver fixes this" things that somehow immediately come up whenever I get hyped up for giving Godot another try.

Godot 4.0 Released 3 years ago

There's a very barebones plugin that does simple syntax highlighting and code completion, more basic than the built-in Godot editor.

Not GP but I'm a full time solo indie dev.

In my case the main issue with GDScript is the tooling, or lack of thereof. No symbol aware rename, no go to definition/usages, poor autocomplete, cryptic errors. Also static typing that's kinda but not entirely there, which exacerbates the tooling issues.

Good tooling is an enormous undertaking, so the way I see it, GDScript is forever doomed to feel like someone's impressive hobby project.

Yeah, LCG seems like such a great and ethical model, but has a proven track record of being hard to keep alive.

I'm currently a very happy player of Flesh and Blood TCG and think it's a fantastic game with great stewardship, but I have very mixed feelings about game economy entirely based on boosters, especially now that I work on games myself.

You'll notice that was added in an addendum, they must've backtracked. I haven't seen it before. What I saw was the original announcement and the resulting Reddit discussion, in which the article author and several other members of the organization had a very different, self-righteous, and downright combative tone. The threat of banning people for not complying was explicitly spelled out.

That Reddit thread is here. It seems to have been thoroughly cleaned up, but you can still see some slivers. I don't think it's worth wading through it, especially if Null Signal learned to be more diplomatic from it - just wanted to make it clear that I was being truthful, or at least as best as I could. I remember the "violence" and "morally deficient" bits as direct quotes, but my memory might be faulty and hyperbolized.

(NISEI is the former name of Null Signal Games, that's also a term they deemed insensitive, and chose to fully rebrand.)

As far as I know, it's a whole different scale of issue. WotC did some fashionable corporate virtue signaling. Some of it sounded reasonable enough to me, some of it was a bit eyerolly but nothing I'm aware of seemed too egregious.

To give one example - Netrunner has (had, I guess) a mechanic called Brain Damage, tied to effects which in lore terms did just that to the runner (hacker) character: heavily damaged by nasty corp tech while jacked into the cyberspace, and having to operate with less capacity/limited resources from that point on. Pretty standard cyberpunk stuff.

Null Signal decided one day that the term is grossly insensitive and now purged from the game, and while they might've told you to print cards containing it up until yesterday, reading it off your cards is now considered literal violence and will get you booted off tournaments. If you're not immediately 100% on board with this decision, you are a morally deficient person and not welcome in the community.

Of note here is Null Signal Games - https://nullsignal.games/

Android: Netrunner was a great cyberpunk-themed, asymmetrical card game which ran 2012-2018, and ended because of a licensing disagreement between FFG and WotC.

Null Signal Games is a donation and volunteer-driven organization which has been shepherding the game - designing new sets, commissioning artists, providing prize kits, and organizing big events to let the game continue. For the most part, they've been knocking it out of the park. New cards are freely available as print-and-play files. Proxying is allowed and encouraged.

Just to not give a purely rosy picture, I'll note that they foster a very combative social justice element which drove some heavy-handed choices and sour community interactions, but on the whole it's been a laudable effort, and continues to do great work.

I never did any paid advertising. At this point it's roughly 80% organic algorithmic platform trafic and 20% word-of-mouth. The latter includes outside user-driven platforms, like MiniReview and TapTap.

I used to do guerilla marketting a bunch, mostly on Reddit, certainly a lot before and around release. I got some ok youtuber and streamer coverage around this time. Ended up releasing on Steam with 10k wishlists, which was enough to provide an initial visibility boost.

Soon before releasing on mobile, I participated in the Humble Stand with Ukraine Bundle, where I distributed 200k+ free keys for charity. Marketing value wasn't what was on my mind at the time, but I know quite a lot of people who picked up the bundle tried out the game, thought "neat but I'd prefer to play this on mobile", and then helped to drive a lot of initial traffic and get picked up by the algo.

I also got featured a bunch in both Google's an Apple's curated game collections.

That's only in multiplayer games

Certainly not true, it's a game design issue that comes up all the time. Even in the context of casual solo play, players will generally be driven by the very human instincts of risk aversion, resource accumulation, and seeking efficiency. It takes good design to make this behaviour be in line with having fun.

If anything, it's multiplayer environments that are easier to steer towards that, and also allow room for just horsing around.

I understand your point and would have to read more deeply about it, but these things exist on a spectrum. Anxiety reduction, talkativeness, etc. might very well be socially induced with alcohol making you significantly more susceptible to the social cues. That isn't any more placebo than any mood altering substance.

Alcohol absolutely does help social anxiety by improving mood and lowering inhibitions on a brain chemistry level. There are plenty of factual and scientific reasons to dislike and discourage alcohol, the "it's all in your head dummy" angle isn't one of them.
