I do not believe that this is a viable alternative to QR codes because it most likely needs a database to store each snap tag. A QR code encodes the data into a 2D image. This means that I can scan a QR code without internet access, and without any downloads other than the scanning app. Snap tags most likely need to call home to get the relevant data.

I had an argument with someone about this, and we ended up agreeing that not everything can be open sourced (figuratively speaking).

Although the complete outcome was more of a stalemate, the above was implied from our discussions.

Try solving riddles, mathematical problems, etc. That might help to get you into the right frame of mind. Don't shoot fish in a barrel, try to think about a problem at first. What is the problem, what are you trying to solve? Now, think of the approaches to solving it. How do you get the answer? Then fool around, and twiddle with things until it works. Try to separate problems into types of problems, each type requiring a certain type of solution, and fit you problem into these lists. Just my two cents.
