Nice, I'm looking for something I can learn a second language with and also teach my son English. In both our cases, I found this bot to be too fluent for the level we're at. It would be great if the bot spoke simpler shorter language, perhaps even limited vocabulary. I tried to guide it through speaking but couldn't get it simple enough.

the markdown like editing is horrible, why is it so hard to implement a few basic formatting options? especially using `backticks` which unless written in one go doesn't work. There was a good few months where lists (-/*) or quote blocks (>) didn't work at all unless selected with mouse, and it would drive me crazy. I used to try to contact support about it but they were always useless. search sometimes finds the message I was looking for but clicking on it never works. wiki isn't editable on mobile. and on computer it's buggy.

Trying to tech my 5yo son English made me realize how broken English is. The alphabet and grammar are decent, the problem is that every other word is an exception. Also, there's no way to write my name in English even though all the syllables are present in English dialect.

As a native Hebrew speaker, when I was first exposed to Kubernetes years ago I could not have overlooked the resemblance to the Hebrew word "kbarnit" which has the same meaning. I'm sure the Greek word which inspired the authors and the Hebrew word share origins (don't know which predates the other), but in this case the Hebrew word happens to sound closer to the common pronunciation which helped me pick it up quite intuitively

Don't have names, but I know that the style of teaching I prefer is informative and concise (boring?). I don't like wordly intros and inline jokes. Unfortunately being funny while you teach has become a measure of being a good teacher, But I guess that works for most students.

I share your pain. Need an extension that would add playback controls to gifs, or at least "play from beginning"

I think startup is best way to boost your career. This is aimed mostly at junior level roles - it's the fastest way to gain meaningful experience. What a dev experience in one year in a startup is like 5 years in a big corp. For highly experienced/highly paid/execs - I don't see the value in joining a startup unless you're the founder or you need that for motivation.

Remote Only 8 years ago

Observation: This almost completely conflicts with the agile manifesto.

Opinion: As an architect I feel that f2f whiteboard and brainstorming sessions are invaluable. But for a dev working on a feature, it might be better to seclude. This is just an example to say that we will never find a policy that works for everyone company-wide and world-wide. The company should do it's best to accommodate it's employees' work style, for them to be productive and happy. As for remote, I think it should be embraced, not enforced.

This is really impressive and all, but what's wrong with saying upfront this is a robot, let it speak it's robotic accent, and let the human know it's speaking to a robot. Assuming this tech is just to bridge current times when most businesses aren't fully automated, and the end goal is to replace BOTH ends of the conversation with robots, in that case the conversation protocol doesn't have to be English, or even voice.

Kudus to NYT for stating the TL;DR right at the top, instead of exhausting the reader with meaningless paragraphs.

The review concludes that, contrary to widespread belief, a long, tiring workout or race can amplify immune responses, not suppress them.

Would be even better if that was reflected in the title, but alas, my expectations from a modern website are not so high.

IMO the best painting/lightweight editing tool is paint.net. Since I moved to mac I moved to Gimp and it’s ‘fine’.. but paint.net is really the only tool I’m missing fron windows

It does look nice, but Apple world only... I'm currently with mac and iPhone, but as a principle I insist that my note taking app will be as cross platform as possible. This is not for practical reason, but for trust reasons. I don't think that every app should be completely cross platform, but notes, at least for me, are essential for the long time, and I don't know on which ecosystem I'll be a few years from now. So picking a platform that at least tries to be cross platform today is the best thing I can do to ensure it'll work for the long run.

There are so many note taking apps and yet I still can't find one I like. My requirements are simple:

- Markdown - cross platform with sync - tags

I have settled on SimpleNote for now, but I'm not completely happy. It's mac app is low quality and doesn't have markdown, It's open source but they ignore most of the issues. Bear Notes looks cool but wasn't cross platform.

I am still looking. If this thing had phone apps (I'm on iPhone) I'd give it a go.
