Google has had years to tweak and tune things. I think it is practically impossible for anyone to match them, let alone surpass them in index quality.

Google needs to open its index and create a search market place. There are millions of domain/location specific apps that can be built around that index.

There is no point. Krugman has some interesting blog posts recently saying economic output has gotten more and more capital based (assuming output is a product of capital and labour). He implies lots and lots of people are not going to have "meaningful" employment let alone employment. No one really knows how to solve this. And I doubt anyone including Eric Schmidt will openly say so. And just because its a politically sensitive thing to say, a pointless amount of money will be spent on education instead of building/reinforcing basic social safety nets.

Countries developed or not, with large populations of poor people are going to have a tough time ahead. Good time to move to Singapore or Scandinavia

I just meet a 25 year old guy, at the hospital whose leukemia had gone into remission using stem cells from his sister. His description of the whole process sounded seriously like science fiction to me. Having a family member who is going through an experimental treatment at the moment, all I can say is, even if the outcomes (in reality) are hopeless, there are many families out there just grateful that options exist.

Keep in touch with good people. Collect contact info. Keep it up to date and backed up. Your network is as important if not more, than your skills as you go up the ladder. I think of it as my own private Google index, that I can lookup for anything that the real one can't provide.
