Have been working on a high-performance, collaborative "Figma for business" (contracting for US-based company) using Rust + WebGL + WebAssembly (WASM) for the past ~1.5 years. Exploring compilers on the side as a personal interest.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Currently a university student looking for junior positions (ideally part-time, but full-time is up for discussion as well).

I have past internship experience in ML engineering and data analysis (separate internships), having worked for one of the biggest e-commerce names in SEA.

More importantly, I have been involved in some remote contract work recently, building a SaaS with Rust and Javascript/Typescript. On the side, I have some experience writing a ray tracer in Rust and also porting C++ code to Rust from some reasonably non-trivial projects.

I am interested in all things technical and have dabbled in compilers, operating systems and graphics. With that said, I believe that I may more suited towards a backend-related role. (willing to pick up any suitable technologies)

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks!

Currently a university student looking for junior/internship positions.

I have past internship experience in ML engineering and data analysis (separate internships), having worked for one of the biggest e-commerce names in SEA. I've been mainly working in Rust in my spare time, working on a full-featured ray tracing engine (~8kLOC and growing).

I am interested in all things technical and have dabbled in compilers, operating systems and general systems programming. With that said, I believe that I may more suited towards a backend-related role. (willing to pick up any suitable stacks)

Sure, most definitely. Although I hope I wasn't giving off the illusion of neglecting my core topics, I certainly wasn't planning on that. I was just thinking that perhaps some of the topics present a sort of diminishing 'rate of return', since going too in-depth past a certain point may not be too useful/enlightening(?). But this may just be purely ignorant thinking on my part, since I have not fully grasped the important parts of each commonly taught CS topic yet.

Ideally at the end of the day a long and fulfilling career would be my goal. Hence why I am trying to source for more internships and hope to land a few more opportunities over the next few years (although it is trying times amidst the current virus situation).

By new directions would you also include exploring new fields of programming/disciplines? If so, what are some which you think are good to venture into and may potentially be something one would hold interest in the long run?

I like your point on complexity; from that statement alone I am far from it yet. The layers of abstraction which I have had to deal with so far can be said to be merely surface-level. This is a goal I'm still trying to consciously work on as well (being able to handle complex projects). I guess for someone who is a newbie like myself I may be jumping the gun too early by finding myself veering towards systems which I may not understand e.g. operating systems, compilers.
