not too great, i submitted a photo taken of me at graduation. it got the location totally wrong and was around 50%-70% accurate on my hobbies and interests. it was able to correctly guess my sexuality and ethnicity, which is rather unsurprising.

MegaTrain stores parameters and optimizer states in host memory (CPU memory) and treats GPUs as transient compute engines. For each layer, we stream parameters in and compute gradients out, minimizing persistent device state

This is pretty awesome. The only compute I have at home is an RTX 3080 with 10 GB of VRAM, so I struggle with training larger models (>40M, 50M params). I get OOM errors and have to optimize a lot.

I have a lot more CPU RAM in my PC, and this would likely increase the size of models I can train locally.

their in-house Workbench distro seems really cool, looks super light and minimalistic. IMHO it's also priced reasonably enough.

this is pretty cool, it seems they reuse every image by translating it a little when your cursor is within a range

wow - this is really well made! i've been doing research w/ Transformer-based audio/speech models and this is made with incredible detail. Attention as a concept itself is already quite unintuitive for beginners due to is non-linearity, so this also explains it very well

Wow. Arco was my first introduction into Arch-based systems - it taught me invaluable amounts of information. I run Arch Linux now, but Arco always has had a special place in my heart. So sad to see it go.

I've never liked any sort of "minimalist" computer or any product in the same vein as this. Never found any sort of use for it. If I want a computer (or any electronic device, really), I want the best one that I can buy at that price point with the most functionality. If I want to take a break from electronics, I can just use pen and paper. No point in shelling out hundreds of dollars for a tablet with less functionality. Perhaps if it was cheaper I could (maybe) considering using it.

What is this? The website is just all blank with "V-test" written on it as a header. Is this some kind of unreleased project?

Oh, omniglot! I really like how they include some famous conlangs like Quenya and toki pona (both of which I am familiar with). The Quenya and toki pona numbers do seem pretty accurate. There are some discrepancies with Quenya (Omniglot thinks cardinal 14 = "cancëa" while parf edhellen/ardalambion thinks cardinal 14 = "canaquë"). Of course, these errors are relatively minor and might not even be errors since Quenya is still evolving as new documents are found and analyzed.
