Either way I don't care what you remember or think.
Well I will remember this. It reflects poorly that your responses are childish when grappling with light criticism. Is this “Founder Mode”?

NICE. This is the capitalism I signed up for…not OpenAI and Anthropic charging $200/mo for an LLM while trying to do regulatory capture.
Why not frame things from the perspective of rewarding good performance? I am sure this will get bought by companies looking to squeeze their workers…and I will not be surprised if this leads to worse outcomes for staff and employers in the medium to long term.
The launch video was disgraceful.
Hey! The doc you linked allows anon edits. You should make it read only :)
It is amazing what HN mods choose to step in an unflag. Really speaks to the performative ethos around “intellectual curiosity”. Elon making a nazi salute is not interesting but Graham speaking about wokeness is interesting and should be discussed.
Racism would almost never result in any physical violence or removal of rights in Europe? Hahahahah this gave me a great laugh.
McKinsey is a deeply unethical company that has skirted meaningful accountability over the last few decades. I highly recommend reading When McKinsey Comes To Town [1] - it really opened my eyes to how hypocritical and self-serving the culture is at the firm.
Maybe a small aside..but it’s very interesting how we as a society took very little learnings from the Crack epidemic during the early years of the Opioid Crisis. It is frustrating how people would rather bury their heads into the sand and reaffirm existing biases vs interrogating the contributing factors.

You really should stop crashing out on HN - you are practically doing the opposing counsel's work for them!
Comparing Sudan to Singapore, India and the UAE is comical. This level of analysis on HackerNews, that ignores the realities of how different countries evolve / are influenced is why we cannot have an honest conversation.
I am from a third-world country that has its own set of problems. To believe that an outside party will come in a build a "better society" for the inhabitants papers over recent history and is almost comical.
"we could not govern ourselves" really belies how young many countries are and the unique challenges they face w.r.t. interference from developed nations. Nation building takes _time_ and I would implore you to think about the historical events that have shaped your nation.
This is getting ridiculous.
This rings true and is also hilarious. I am tired of the AI hype/grift that seems to pervade the industry - funnily enough some of these same promoters were on the blockchain/crypto hype that was going to revolutionize every industry on earth.
There is meat to recent advances in Machine Learning…but the revenue / savings for actual businesses will need to start coming in if this hype is going to be sustainable for the next 16-24 months.
This is egregious behaviour on the part of Austen. It is not lost on me how Paul Graham blessed this mess.
ELv2 is not an open source license. Why are so many companies using “open source” to scaffold on traction and interest? This framing is disingenuous.

From a friend: Everyone was laid off with no severance or benefits. The CEO put all the blame on a lender in order to explain why there were no severance packages. This sucks because they took it upon themselves to offer staff retention bonuses earlier this year to keep people around after the earlier layoff.
It also just occurred to me that _he was on the board signing off on the equity grants_. So it is insane that he says he has no idea how this happened and later backtracks and says they were aligned on a growth plan that didn’t pan out. The rule that company CEO tweets a ton == poorly managed company never ceases to fail.
I find it very interesting how he (Ryan Petersen) bragged about Flexport having $1B in cash [2] but now implies that things are tight so they cannot pay any form of severance[1].
Don’t let the SV propaganda fool you. The implicit contract betweeen white collar workers and employers has been gone for quite some time. Employees should always prioritize what is best for them.

This is really nice! I have been working on getting ANN search working in the browser ([1] demo, [2] WIP repo) and would love to switch out onnx for the embedding generation.

privacy focused semantic search / ML at the edge is looking brighter every day.
this is really nice. I may need to change the onnx backends in my demo here[1] from wasm to webgpu.
Hi! (not a member of Metal) - I am curious about your big pain points. Happy to chat on twitter/email (doesn't appear to be any contact information in your profile).
Thanks!
The Iraq War of 2003 [1] began with an invasion almost two decades ago (anniv will be in March 2003 iirc) with participation of a coalition of Western governments. That "almost" is doing heavy lifting given that this war officially lasted until ~2011 and led to further interventions as recently as 2014[2]. Notably, a non-trivial rationale for this war were lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction - which unsurprisingly, were never found. I am curious if your government participated in this war.
Ignoring the ongoing interventions in foreign conflicts [3][4], US Foreign Policy has been absolutely _disastrous_ for a number of countries around the world. From the perspective of the US Govt, this may be fine though I would argue that the real effects from destabilization and strained bilateral relations are simply accumulating. Happy to provide citations for multiple blunders in the last 3 decades. It is not surprising that many countries in the global south now see China|Russia|India as better bilateral partners.
Devolving critique to simply originating from "if you were an Islamic extremist of something" is very reductive and I would implore you to read more about global politics from different national perspectives.

I really wonder what’s happening at all the video/audio call intelligence startups that raised over the last few years [1][2][3]. I would pay to be a fly on the wall during their strategy meetings this morning.
I guess another footnote in the history books for Microsoft decimating a recently emerged biz niche.

I have read more SEC complaints this year than in all of my previous years combined.

I cannot believe the insanity that happened in this company. Where was the board?!
Musk joined a Twitter Spaces discussion about the bans and was mocked after he left [1]. Notably, suspended accounts were on stage with Elon during the discussion [2].
The space was ended abruptly 30 minutes later and it appears it was killed on Twitter’s side given that the usual metadata does not match what a closed Space has. This Space was being recorded and the replay is not available [3].
Musk now claims that they are fixing a “legacy bug” [4] and this is why Spaces has been disabled. In my opinion, Musk is behaving like a petulant child and his group of cheerleaders look more ridiculous and without backbone each day.

Did a hard refresh of the application, data in channels and threads will not load. At least the status page was updated reasonably quickly!
This seems very sketchy and the CEO’s responses are more defensive than reflective and remorseful.
I was initially considering using wasmer for a project but will go with wasmtime (still open to suggestions though!)
Sorry to hear about this OP. I had a similar ghosting experience @ Twitter.
Interviewed for a Senior SWE position and they made me an offer - I asked for a slight increase in RSUs and the recruiter disappeared. I also sent two follow up emails that I supposed went into the void.
There are a ton of great companies / opportunities out there! Since you can pass their loop I am sure you have the right mindset and skills to pass others - their loss!
