Google used to have a feature to suppress sites or domains from your personal search result. This was back in the day where any programming question would lead to a paywalled site like experts-exchange which was a frustrating experience so it was easy to block. I suppose google removed that feature because it messed with monetization possibilities in search, but it is another indication of the way that google has really deprioritized the quality of the search experience for the user.

I've been doing something similar using jrnl. I use hashtags so I could theoretically look up stuff in the past.

I.e.

jrnl "@vim type _:noh_ to remove the last search's highlighting"

And then a week later when I can't remember, I could use

Untappd is also weird because you know that the producers of some of these small brewery beers actually look at these checkins. A lot of the beer drinkers I know will prefer to not rate a beer instead of giving it a sub-3 rating.

Does anyone have any experience with SparkPost? They seem attractive to switch from Mandrill because they also use handlebars as a templating language.

I agree- I was a huge fan of MongoDB when it came out because of the unique data structures it enabled easily. However when it came time to select a new database for my new project, I found that the JSON support that PSQL had added gave me all the flexibility I needed while still in a somewhat relational form, and additionally it is dead simple to spin up postgres RDS instance in AWS, and it's a pain to use Mongo there.

You may also want to mention in your post what languages and frameworks you're already using.

If you have a java, scala, or clojure backend, using Mahout to make item to item recommendations is pretty simple to do. If you have a different language, I would just look into libraries for collaborative filtering in that language.

I use bittorrent sync for a lot of stuff, including a directory of RTF notes I take. While I'm on my mac I use Notational Velocity to edit them which is my favorite notes app ever. I haven't found a good way to edit the rtf docs on my android phone, though, which is kind of crucial. If anyone has a good solution involving bittorrent sync that is compatible with notational velocity on the mac, I'd love to hear it.

Just a note here- I agree with most other people that if you work at a place for a short while and leave, I would just leave it off your resume. You will get asked about that in interviews, and in my experience giving interviews it's a red flag when a candidate "goes negative" about a current or previous employer; even if the reasons are totally valid (which yours sound like they are) it can come off as bitter or petty in the context of an interview and should be avoided if possible. There are ways to talk about the kind of employer you're looking for without directly maligning a previous one.

I think there are a few considerations based on the type of role. If you're expected to interact with clients, then I think a full suit for an interview is appropriate, basically to demonstrate that you can present yourself in a business environment if necessary.

If the role is purely for programming, and your impression is that the other developers at this company do not wear them, I would not wear a tie and jacket- it could come off as an incorrect cultural fit.

I don't think you'll feel overdressed in any work environment if you wear a button up shirt, comfortable slacks, and understated dress shoes.

I'm surprised Cyprus's bailout plan isn't mentioned in this article. As part of it's bailout package, Cyprus was forced to liquidate it's gold stores. While this amount (~14 tons) is negligible to the world gold balance- the amount of gold that other troubled European nations have (Italy, Spain, Portugal) is massive. If they are forced to go through similar plans, the flooding of the world gold market would greatly increase the supply.
