Honestly, I think the future is a combination of geoengineering and carbon reduction policies.
The earlier we realize this the better. Geo-engineering needs a lot of research to minimize risk and find effective/feasible solutions. I don't think we would have the time when we decide it is suddenly too hot and need a solution now. I'm not sure if it is that the populace at large dose not like geoengineering, or if its just a combination of fear of the unknown and a vocal minority of naturalists, but I think it is for the best we start the conversation now so at least many people can warm up to the idea.
Carbon policy can't be the only solution simply because, not every nation is on board with carbon neutral policies, either because of naivete, arrogance, pressure from public and or private interest groups. Even if we we get every nation onboard with carbon neutrality, what is to say they will stay that way on the next N centuries of election cycles?
I agree its not super compelling, its like cancer poetry, but I do think it is interesting that people seem to be using it for this purpose.

I don't think any reasonable person would argue argue against importing highly skilled laborers to increase GDP per capita, that is, to fill a genuine labor shortage that domestic supply cannot fill within a reasonable span of time.

Nah, I think the videos are neat, but I have niche interests in art like datamoshing, algorithmic art and whatever... What I am saying is, if you are trying to pull a Midjourney with video that can be sold as a product (i see you are YC W24), wait a little while and make it more appealing before going public so people get the right idea about your product, and come back to it for more. Right now it seems like it is a little gimmicky.

To be brutally honest, don't say "We think you can". It does not matter if you think people will like it. Do people like it? If the average Joe sits down and plays a with the model, will they have a good time?

Honestly, they are as difficult as you want them to be. Some parents stress way to much about them hurting themselves in the process.
If you take everything in moderation, they are not that bad at all. There will be a few bad days ofc, but at large my kids are the best thing that happened to me, and I have two at the same age.

This isn't a trade war, there is no competition the EU is trying to bolster. The way I see it they are just being assertive about their market rules, which is refreshing considering other regions tend to get walked over.

If you haven't seen it yet, go checkout whats on r/CombatFootage, its essentially killbots that follow soldiers around and explode on contact or drop grenades. I think this is a future of warfare which we are not talking about enough. If the Ukraine is able to make these effectively with consumer technology, unfortunately everyone can, including criminals looking to make hits.
I could see this fall out in a few ways:
- Operating personal drones and other small craft will (and should) become restrictive, if not outright prohibited outside of designated areas. All commercial drones outside of these areas will have to have squawk their position and registration.
- Eventually radio jammers will not be effective countermeasures against these weapons. Machine vision, and a simple AI which could be crammed into a SoM (e.g. IoT AI products), lock onto targets and follow them into areas with radio jammers.
- Anyone who needs security protection will probably be spending a lot more time indoors including events.
This is a weird thread. I feel like there are many people who have no clue what they are talking about other than a few buzzwords, and make huge generalizations about AI or intelligence in general to _will their opinion into reality_. These statements are biased by either fear of loosing their job or fear of loosing on some investments on AI.
Obviously, the enshittification threat as the author points out is significant. It will be interesting problem to deal with in the future, but until then I feel like no one knows when or what that will look like.
At this rate, no one can predict what AI will bring us 6 months in the future even!

Yeah the technology for verifying identity has existed for a long time, but who is going to be the root authority for this? will they be federal? private? I feel not many people will want to play ball on this, especially for the major forums online.

I don't know man, this sounds like Stockholm syndrome. Aside from the extra money and the Linux fanboyisms... why not just install a configurable OS that isn't user hostile?
Windows is just too unstable for my computer illiterate grandparents. They are slowly loosing their vision, they can't handle the spastic updates to UI, the tabloid headlines, random games that are automatically installed and other visual garbage... the list could go on. I setup their desktop environment to be incredibly simple, just enough for their needs, with remote access, and no spontaneous updates.
I'm not advocating against Windows because FOSS reasons. I have no time for bullshit, I need something that works and Windows does not.

I see both side of the equation here honestly... fyi I have kids, the two for one deal.
On one side, kids are tough. It is a commitment, if you are used to a certain lifestyle of travel and individual activities things are going to get significantly tough. Not impossible, but it will probably be different to accommodate others needs. On top of that my wife career has been pushed aside for a few years to help the kids before kindergarten starts. There is a financial burden, even with state benefits if you are educated (I live in the EU). I see why so many people don't have kids, it just isn't worth it for them.
At the same time, kids are great and I have no regrets even though we are parenting them through the "terrible twos". I love them so much, they are a driving force in my life. I find it somewhat scary that I had a child free mindset in uni. On top of that I have increasing skepticism about pensions going into the future... there is just too many old people around. What money is going to be left when I get old? _probably none_. The kids are my backup plan, of course I cant count on them, its their life too, but those chances are better than the possibility of dying alone in some cheap care facility or worse.
I may sounds biased because I would benefit from such a scheme, but if governments _want_ kids for economic stability, then make it worth it for parents to have kids! The pressure to work now days is exhausting for society, like cutting down a forest without planting new trees.
