Godaddy has been doing it for at least decade now, i just searched a domain i think 10 years ago that I in fact needed, however didn't want to use Godaddy for registration, anyway the only mistake I made was, i searched for its availability on their site, and it was available, then i went to namecheap to register it. (im from Pakistan no way affiliated with Namecheap anyhow) .. and to my surprise it got registered within i think 10 min, I was quite shocked, and then I tried to look for its whois and found Godadday had registered it, and I can swear, this was the last time i visited their website.

this godadday practice story keeps showing up every now and then everywhere reddit or HN etc.

Some people say it's great, they 'secure' your domain than hijacking.. blah blah. nonetheless it's a creepy behavior.. in the past such discussion i guess it only cost them few cents to register it for a month period etc.. not sure exactly, some peeps had suggested to make a bot to search tons of them.. but I think it doesn't cost them much... somehow....

basically he still made great money, i don't think anyone would pay more than $10k .. if he had listed it on flippa it's simple 3 x yearly revneue for such sites = $ 5000 maxium. he got the right buyer and $10k isn't bad deal for either party.

while I applaud the author, but it didn't entirely settle well with me... I guess it still amounts to misuse of one's resources. in this case twitter.

With Google Reader Gone, Facebook and Twitter essentially have taken the place of feed readers. It makes a lot of sense for Facebook, it's not merely a social network anymore. It's acting like a social 'OS' for the users now.

I happen to work in an industry (intl shipping) where we scan billions of PDF daily, and I have no clue, how would we share docs with all the parties involved ... 'sanely' ... if it were not for PDF, TIFF isn't good either .. PDF docs are like 3kb-10kb ... other than physical scan of papers ... however 'generated PDF docs' are 5kb at best.

I am guessing and it’s a guess since I don’t have any facts to substantiate this claim that we perhaps were not meant to be so techy or take so much mental stress. Starting from stressful college education to financial career, I am still at loss why even humanity moved to this direction... quality of life is a delusion ... human adjust to their given environment . I don't get it's point at least as yet. Wikipedia works because there wasn't a free sober extensive alternative available.. there are billions of way to get news and authentic ones too. I don't see the point as yet. The blogging tried to revolutionize the citizen journalism.. but it's tiresome with little to none rewards. Comparing it to Wikipedia is comparing Apples to Oranges ..

They will be $10 billion in few years. Afterwards they will be beyond acquision. Given they keep the same pace and hardwork. They could be more valuable than Uber period. It's because they have positioned themselves in this unique situation they are based outta SF they have good VC and good hardcore freight team. It's unique and I don't see why they can't be $100 billion company given the scope of this industry and so far they have been doing everything good that paved the way for $100 billion valuation ultimately... Perhaps in a decade but they are getting there.

I guess it's little too much overblown ... As a professional importer as you may sound. Airfreight unlike ocean freight ridiculously varies for instance you can ship the same load for $2/kg and if you choose EK Emirates they may charge $3/kg. I am not saying you are wrong. You would have paid more than with FEDEX also at this point I am not sure what Origin and Destination were involved .. was it an international shipment? China to US?

But I also feel they need to give customers options of pricing choice in their dashboard... It normally tends to be via one Airline only. And it does result in confusion... Traditionally freight forwarder offer at least 2-3 airlines options with varying pricing, routes and transit times ... For a good insight you should have mentioned actual transit times comparison for both services too.

However I do humbly disagree with you giving an impression that are kinda not hardcore guys they are beast ... And I have been in this industry for the past 20 years. Yeah they do need to improve pricing options in their dashboard... And very quickly. They should give customer 2-3 options based on slower faster and service reliably of air and ocean carriers.

as an HR manager, we had to adopt open plan, for our own reasons, however before we did so, we have made our hygienic rules 10x stricter, But I guess solely chalking up sickness to open plan is bit too far-fetched, there are still too many public places, commute, public washrooms etc that one can't avoid ... having said, this also depends higher than usual standards for hygienic at work.
