Can you be sure Google’s ${anything} will be around in 6 months? They have a decades long habit of dumping things that have major use but aren’t novel internally. Worrying about the next 10 years isn’t something you can honestly do when you your argument includes Google owning a thing.

Bias: I fought for things like Reader from the inside. If it doesn’t move needles, it goes away.

I don’t know the appropriate way to celebrate this but I most definitely will. If there’s a hell, he’s going to find out what it means. (I don’t believe there is a hell.)

AI has helped us all lose the plot because now we don’t just know better than everyone else, we can prove it by project managing our better versions of the same things.

What I find really great is that we’re only a prompt or two away from proper docs for these novel solutions but we still don’t make them and if we do, we definitely don’t read them first.

Deep Musk 1 year ago

Welp, I now have a new Bluesky account just for generating satirical misinformation. Thanks for the inspiration!

Or it could just be a single action pistol, as noted in the article. They’re not common but there are a handful of them that are relatively easy to obtain. Competitive shooters use them and it seems that Seals are sometimes issued single action pistols too.

Where’s the crazy part? Lots of people are vegan or vegetarian. Many cultures the world over don’t consume meat. Is it because she chose to change her diet? Because she chose it for ethical and environmental reasons? Or because you don’t agree?

I for one think turkey tastes like crap. Never understood gluttony as a holiday. On the other hand, I think turkeys are funny as hell and love having them on my farm.

The number of animals we toss in a bin is pretty crazy. You wouldn’t put that many dogs in the trash and think it was okay, would you? Is it just because you assume they don’t taste as good?

So you’re asking if the majority of Californians would gladly see Musk be excluded from these benefits? Seems like the recent election results would be a pretty good indicator of how that would go. And assuming that they would, then you’re okay with it, right?

Also, don’t confuse gerrymandered elections with overwhelming support. Texas turned disenfranchising people into an art form. What the voting lines say and what the people want are rarely aligned. The Texas government knows this. The people know this (ex Texan here). Its cleverly and not secretly crafted to make it nearly impossible for the state to go blue.

Firewalls solve problems like this. Relying on a secret callback mechanism to run your business is high risk, when you have sophisticated customers. A number of industries have low risk tolerance and default deny traffic, which would make those industries inaccessible to a company that tried to operate that way.

Are you comparing Trump to people who fought for freedom, equality and civil rights? Those people were arrested because of an unjust system. Trump was tried for corruption and assault. This is a false comparison.

I personally wouldn't be where I am without her. Google wasn't my first job but it was the first one that mattered and I was there pretty early (2004). The founding team set Google up for success. The tech was obviously key but you can still ruin good tech by running a bad business. She earned her success, multiple times and I have a deep appreciation for what she did and what she was part of. It's a sad day, for sure.

There is an available option for this: FMLA. It can be difficult to find a doctor to sign off, if you haven't already been in therapy though, which is unfortunate. When you realize you're burned out, it's usually past the point where you need a hand. FMLA doesn't guarantee salary but it does require that medical coverage is maintained and that your job is safe. SDI can help with income, which is why you need a doctor involved.

In my last job, we did both and used the latter as part of our pitch to migrate customers to newer architecture. In order to justify the R&D, you have to show a benefit to your margins or the time spent has less value. Not everyone will share the savings with their customers, which is why doing it is good for sales. Show the customer you care about their spend and not just your own.

I'm a Bay Area native. Grew up in San Jose and took my first paid tech job in 1999. I left CA after 30 years and with the exception of Tahoe and a few people, I can't find anything to miss.

Care to share what you consider "deal-breakers" because I've found parity for less money, pretty much everywhere I looked.
