Regarding years of experience this quote from Code Complete book could be useful "If you have not learned the language/framework in 1-2 years, more years won't help you" :)

As I can't see any way to change to English, I would suggest next time to mention that German language is needed for the job. The hiring comment being in English (including this being a remote position) it appears that this English language is enough for the position.
