For more women to be confident to have these traits, society need to start encouraging girls to be leaders, competitors, driven and independent individuals.

For reference, I am a woman but I am often discouraged to show leadership skills or be competitive with others, especially with guys at work. I can feel the air change when I exhibit these traits. People start to distant themselves from me because I don't fit the culture norm. I feel I can do a much better job if I showed more feminine traits like listening more and being empathetic and showing I'm a team player.

So yeah, it is easy for a guy to be critical because he has no experience in the matter!

Men apply if they are 60% qualified and most women apply if they feel they are 100% qualified. Making the application description more female-friendly does not bring more under-qualified candidates. It brings those who doesn't feel as confident in their own ability but ARE qualified.

What you miss here is that men are often overconfident and women are under-confident. It has nothing to do with qualification. It has everything to do with confidence.

And yes, women are often less confident because tech is an industry often marketed for men.

Studies have shown that that women are less likely to respond to an ad that has overly masculine or aggressive language (despite being qualified), whereas men will apply regardless.

Having a job description more gender friendly encourages more women to apply and men will apply regardless.

I think key is to actually NOT to have expectation. Expectation are result focused. What's important is to be process focused. And process is more about thinking positively on each step. Or better yet... use Paradoxical intention to face our worst fears.

Eh, so I would like to add I lean towards social democracy. And I admit I have a bias view. When I think of pro-business, I think of corporations valuing profit over people, of government valuing control over personal freedom, and of people who assume money can solve all their problems.

China and Asia, in general, has a very conservative "keep it to yourself, fix it yourself" attitude when it comes to problems, which can be very toxic.

I think the attitude is more 'don't stand out' and 'don't be different' attitude. 'keep to yourself' is a behavior resulted from this attitude.

Most native Chinese folks value group experience over individual experience.

I'll try to take a stab at this. I'm Chinese-American and I feel the Chinese folks who come to the US to study or to work have very different mindsets.

I have a friend who is dating a lot in NYC and he told me he notice most of his Chinese-American friends are liberal as in we fight for freedom of expression and social justice. Whereas the girls he met who are newly from China are conservative and support Trump because they are pro-business and more money-driven.

Based on his observation and my own experience I would agree. Most new Chinese visitors or immigrants don't value social rights and freedom of speech. And to be a bit critical, I feel they are so used to having the government or authority telling them what to do that they are comfortable with authoritarian rules and don't understand the importance of having independent thoughts and diversity.

As a female, I think this article didn't take into consideration that we buy a lot of shit! Clothes, make up, body care items, etc... I swear we produce more trash than men for the sake of vanity!

So yeah, maybe women do recycle more but I think we produce a lot more trash than your average manly man who wears the same shirt 3x a week and doesn't need to apply hand lotions every half hour.

Rich donors and lobbyists are buying Republican votes so they can avoid paying taxes and screw the middle class. The middle class has been shrinking for decades now. The rich gets richer and poor gets poorer is the best sign that oligarchy government is happening.
