It is really hard to separate work from personal life as freelancer. Maybe OP could start there, because this calculating problems starts there. Setting working hours can help and IMO can't be that hard even with kids - I did it for some time. And when you're looking for flexible calendar - you won't find anything better than small paper calendar, pen and cheap casio watch.

Bro, you are not alone. I have similar problems with my master's thesis. Two things help me: - every Sunday I report to my sister on my progress - on the evening she asks me how my paper is going and I honestly answer her even if there is no progress - I try to work on it every weekend. I stopped fooling myself that working on it on working day evenings is even possible with a kid running around. And... There is some progress!

I am a news junkie as I'm really into politics. I even studied sociology with focus on propaganda. From some time I started to implement "less is more" in the news aspect. I buy weekly newspaper (printed, helps me focus on reading), listing to one politics podcast a week. It really cleared my mind and I am still well informed. Maybe even better informed as I filtered out low quality information.

You'll use a lot of skills from your current job in the new career path. Just do it!

I have my photos on my personal computer and some of them on my external hdd. I manage and edit them with lightroom. I backup everything from time to time on two external hdds with rustic. I export albums to google photos and personal (mine and my gf) stuff on onedrive. But it's only exports - lower resolution and after-edit jpgs.

[edit] only time I lost some image was because I have waited too long to copy it from my camera to the computer :)

Realizing that time speeds up for us when we grow up. Maybe this sounds obvious and silly, but thinking not only how short life is, but also how faster and faster it passes by gives you something. (I had to pick one idea though!).

As people here suggest I would try finding any kind of low income job first. For what it takes.

Than when you sort things out and have stable living situation (have place to live and food to eat) you can get back to tech - start attending meetups and maybe try applying jobs via this personal contacts.

I don't know how churches work in Netherlands, in Poland you would get some help - it really depends from people. If you won't reach out for help, you won't get it.

It's easy to forget what's on your mind if you don't have at least some points you want to want to discuss.

- First Aid - if you don't know it, you should learn it ASAP.

- History and theory of modern and contemporary art - then it's easier to understand everything in the museum and you won't ever say "I don't get modern art" and "Modern art is a shit".

- New language - I believe trying and learning only few words is worth it!

- How to dress (including how to buy clothes).

I still have a lot of misfitting shirts in my wardrobe and this old masculine perfume my grandma gave me when I was 16.

I see why I wasn't comfortable with these. It takes some time, especially if you don't want to spend a lot of cash at once. But when you know how to dress, you feel more confident look good and feel better with yourself.

By "how to dress" I mean finding your style, not having suit 7 days a week.

Yes, but STARGING in backend is easier. I don't try to say that FE is harder, just that this wall between beginner and modern standards is higher here. After this wall it's probably harder in BE that in FE, but I think this wall is higher for FE devs.
