Brief background: Locket provides advertising on your Android lockscreen. User gets a penny for every time he sees an ad on the lockscreen.
My question: Why should Locket pivot due to people trying to "scam the system"? It's like Paypal in the early days giving up because too many people are trying to hack the system.
P.S. but even before this update, with 250+ ratings visible, there wasn't really a noticeable difference in installs.
Hey Paul, thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, agree on the deal-maker. Maybe we can tweak the app copy to see if that improves the downloads.
Also, we have a lot of reviews (250+), but since we just updated the app, the ratings don't carry over.
Thanks! Why though would people click on the ad which is clearly about stocks, if they don't want a stocks app?
It's difficult for me to understand this.
Yes, we are. We might have to move to a proper paid service like BATS when this gets bigger.

We're thinking of an up-sell strategy. Our team has a lot of financial experience (ex-wall street), and there are many advanced products such as portfolio analytics, diversification metrics and risk ratios etc. that we could sell.
A basic stocks app is our way of reaching our target audience.
To be honest though, this is more a guess that anything else. Hopefully we won't have to do banner ads without the app. Those are really ugly.
Thank you! That's a really good point. We'll be adding a Commodities watchlist in the near future!
Are there any particular tickers that you use? With oil, there's spot and futures. The ones on yahoo are mostly futures dated the next month. It would be more involved to have to keep updating it monthly as opposed to an index.
It would probably be more straightforward to use an index like iPath S&P GSCI Crude Oil TR Index ETN (OIL)
What do you think? Thanks!
Not necessarily, there are cheap $1 brokers like Interactive Brokers. I've used them, they get the job done.
How about http://99designs.com/ ?
You could choose the one you like best, and approach the designer for additional work.
Update: We just got a call from Apple developer relations explaining that all apps which makes use of animation on the lockscreen are not allowed. Well, at least a definite no saves us development time in trying to iterate further on this.
We've tried this too. But beyond the standard "We'll contact you shortly", nothing has happened after weeks (3-4 weeks).
Thank you for your comments and suggestion. I'm aware that Apple doesn't like this too, and am only asking for help because of 6 rejections in 2.5 months. It's hard when all you get is a cryptic message that hasn't changed in 3 rejections regardless of what you do. And because some crap app that is a horrendous copy of ours is sitting pretty at number 2.
It does make sense that it is possible that Apple's configuration is having problems. I'll try to test it with more devices over the weekend. Thanks!
And there's a terrible copy of our app (that doesn't even work), that's sitting at number 2 in paid entertainment! Argh.

Yes, we've put in detailed information, including a demo video.
More on the background of the app. When we submitted our first update, we had no background music, and Apple's comment was true. We then made the change to incorporate background music and have a music selector to play music from the playlist.
However, no matter what we did afterwards, Apple has always been posting the same response "copy and paste". There's no engagement or changes despite us fixing the problem and posting demo videos with the sound and such.
Hey David, that's really inspiring. What do you think differentiated you from the rest of them when you first started?
It's impossible to do anything if you have to look for a completely novel idea.
I like the lean startup concept. Keep the costs low and just forge ahead. Once you've started on the idea, you'll learn a lot more about the field, and be able to innovate in areas that you previously never dreamt of.
Just get going : )
Your post is missing the main gripe of many developers so far. Which is that there's far more money in iOS land than there is in Android. It's hard for an average game to make more than $100 a week.
I left my job back in 2009 at the dumps of the financial crisis. Take a 2 months break, do something you've always wanted to do. I went to Hong Kong and partied for 2 months, recharging, before preparing for my current startup. No need to hurry, your next startup will consume you.
