Companies know that people think like this nowadays, so they only require the phone number after you are already invested into the service. Twitter had this where they would allow you to not set phone initially, but then ban you some time later and require it to lift the ban. Microsoft also bans you for “suspicious activity” and the only way to unlock account is to “verify” your number. You can only contact them about it via another ms account or… by phone. Fuck everything about this tbh.

I think it’s effective because the message is simple and scaled in coordinated fashion. To effectively answer to such an attack you need to massively distribute among the users refutals to every part of the attack message, with reputable sources and it needs to be brief enough so people don’t lose interest halfway. It could take a form of browser extension or a separate site with a dialogue tree of sorts where one participant is propaganda bot and the other the site user. Then users need to publicly post these (i guess you can ask fellas for help?).

You can just generate a bunch of legit looking news sites and spam it on facebook/whatever. Most people won’t check and it’s not viable for facebook to track every fake news site.

I disagree. From what I can see the problem is that people are receptive to propaganda on the internet, and you can’t really solve this. As long as this is the case, there will be people who can benefit from shifting public perception, and then it becomes merely a question of resources.

Why do you think people who pay money to create accounts to push their agenda will stop doing it when you tell them to cut the middleman? I bet the platform will just be 100% occupied by bots.

Hormones are not specifically targeted to young people, and all the trans dyi resources I’ve seen have a ton of disclaimers and aren’t exactly easy to find and use. It is a last option for people who have no other choice, and it is regarded as such in community. To go this route you need to do actual math, do the blood work and read about this a lot. Do I think it should be available for children? In a perfect world - no, as children have access to medical professionals and puberty blockers. In this one, where an opinion of 17.999 year old may be completely discarded by parents who are 100% sure they know their child better then the child themselves? Where people can be told their appointment is in two years? Where the doctor can be a bigot and discard valid concerns? And not having this option at all may lead to many suicides? Yeah, I think this option may be justified. How many years would you consider to be permanent enough for you? Are you claiming that all parents are correct all the time?

You have trouble believing that trans people, whose problems are ignored by most population, choose to help people experiencing the same problem, that they know may lead to suicide if untreated, when nobody else does? How is it surprising? The only proper solution to this problem is to give all trans people equal and quick access to properly trained medical professionals who can treat them correct way, and that’s not happening.

You seem to be of opinion that this is a simple situation with clear cut options one of which is always safe while the other can bring harm. That is not the case, as usual with problems that cause so much discussion on the internet. If the trans person is not able to get necessary treatment (which is well documented by medical professionals) it’s very likely they will experience depression and they may even suffer harm as a result. How can you evaluate that doing nothing in this situation may indeed bring less harm than another option? That is usually a decision that needs to be made by a medical professional, but what if that’s not possible? What if the doctors aren’t trained to deal with situations like this and would still bring harm by their choices?

This happens because a lot of times trans people find themselves in the position where they realize they are trans but can’t do anything about it because they were born in a country that doesn’t offer the qualified help to them (at all or in timely fashion). Sometimes it has to do with their parents refusing to hear what’s on their mind. That’s when “trans diy” options come to light and they helped many a trans people previously. The thin line where this kind of behavior might turn into something less innocent might not be immediately obvious, especially when phrased in a way that is supposed to elicit emotional response.

Safari team is really strange with their priorities, most of the time they are dead set on implementing specs last, but every once in a while they decide a feature is important and they implement it faster than everyone else. For example, backdrop-filter was supported in safari way back in 2015, while other browsers added it multiple years later.

You don’t need nodding or really any conscious reaction I think. It should be possible to have some camera directed at face hooked up to another AI that catches slight changes in pupil dilation or other changes imperceptible to naked eye and registers when something looks interesting to the user. You can then quickly show a stream of variations and pick the tagged ones and use them to improve the guesses. I imagine something like this might one day become a preferred way of interacting with computers/AI.

This happens more often then you think. I’ve seen basically every minority group imaginable get told to develop thick skin and get over their “imaginary problems” (black, asian, indian, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, straight, poor, rich etc), even on more liberal corners of the internet.

And then all of the effort spent on "building the world they wished to see" gets used to also build a world that goes against everything they wished, against their ideology. Due to openness of their efforts they also don't have an option on influencing that, unlike commercial products who can simply stop doing business with precise companies/people/territories. What if the very idea of open source gets used against itself? What would you advise those people to do? Shut up about "the current thing"?

Joe became popular for inviting all kinds of guests and just letting them speak, I consider that to be a great boon to forming truly diverse audience, and I have no doubt he had it before spotify days. After that I've seen him almost going for a streak, inviting right-wing guests one after another, but judging from responses I got here this might not be the case anymore, I'll have to listen to his recent podcasts to get a better picture.

He publicly endorsed Sanders, then moved to Texas [0], accepted a big paycheck and checked out from discussions with a lot of his most liberal friends on podcast. I'm not sure anyone leaning democrat would be happy to move from Cali to a furiously red religious state that goes against some of his beliefs. But then again he has fuck you money so maybe that's the reason.
