Went to many music festivals, clubs, dances with them. They couldn't dance. They weren't incapable of learning how to dance. They just weren't automatically good at dancing because they were good at playing music.

I guess being around musicians my whole life i've never considered that there would be a correlation, cause the skills aren't transferrable.

There are a lot of famous singers that don't dance on stage. Neil Young, Kurt Cobain, Geddy Lee, Bob Dylan. Having a sense of rhythm and a good ear just aren't enough to make you a good dancer.

Okay,singing requires manipulation of your voice (diaphragm + airways. You also need to know the correct posture to keep,but its not 100% necessary).

Dancing requires manipulation of your feet, legs, hips, shoulders, arms, hands, and head. Sometimes your belly and butt as well.

Just having a sense of rhythm isn't good enough. You can bob along to a rhythm with 100% accuracy, and not be "dancing." You need to know how to move your body in a way that is rhythmically accurate and pleasing to the eye, coordinating different body parts in alternating, but synchronized patterns. It's a totally different skill set. Musicians,for example, are often very reluctant dancers.

I think what you're saying is that you find those temperatures very cold. You asked what "inhabited places" are colder than that; I gave you a list of countries totalling around 200 million people who would not find Icelandic winters cold. I'm not sure they'd be too happy with a high of 11 in the summer though.

an average low of 0 celsius in the winter is a LOT warmer than Canada, except maybe on the west coast. It's probably warmer than the Nordics too, and maybe Russia.

yeah I should have qualified it with that. definitely it didn't start with covid. but I myself have noticed this kind of strange general coldness that is persisted since and I have noticed many comments on Hacker News about it too.

I have a theory that the covid experience is behind this. We all got used to being implicitly afraid of people because of social distancing. We also became so incredibly angry about people either forcing us to do things like wear masks or about people not doing those things. On top of that we were encouraged to drive our personalities into the internet even further, and we became even more used to being isolated from other people and being able to have all of our needs fulfilled without having to actually connect with a human being. In short we were encouraged to dehumanize each other and we really haven't stopped thinking that way because it's way more convenient to not have to take other people's feelings into consideration.

as far as coups go, this one was pretty tame

never had a problem with any of the carriers here in Canada using phones from Europe and Asia for seniors. subscriptions were the same price as any other flip phone.

there are quite a lot of senior phones with large buttons and dumb phone type numpads. I don't know if any of them are true dumb phones however.

you are right that it is not a true dumb phone. I never use the Wi-Fi and it has no data so I often forget it even exists. that's a good point about the operating system I hadn't checked into that. I was just happy to get something that worked and didn't break easily and had no 24/7 internet access.

I do think that more and more people are starting to want less intrusion by the devices in their life so I wouldn't be surprised if a true affordable dumb phone enters the market in the next few years.
