I did the [Computer Architecture and the Hardware/Software Interface](https://bradfieldcs.com/courses/architecture/) course and really enjoyed it.

I applied for the CSI program and really hope I get to do it this coming year. I got a ton of value out of the above course ($1800).

The CSI course is 10-20 hours a week for the year.

Lastly, up to this point I've been self-taught through Udemy. The problem with that is, sometimes, if you're stuck on something, it might take you 8 hours or more to figure it out. Where if you have someone knowledgeable, they can explain it in 15 minutes. Bradfield seems to do the best at that.

I've tried hiring a tutor outside of a MOOC and asking them for help, but it wasn't quite the same as a teacher who is actively engaged with the material.

It's not traditional actually. We vest quarterly, and I've sold my stock as soon as I've received it (two vest days so far). My third vesting is November 15th.

The last picture gives you my estimated total comp for the year, $343k. It will be something close to that unless $FB has a major change between now and next vesting date in February 2020.

No moral lesson here - I suppose my point is that you rarely get to have such a clear-cut comparison of what would've happened if you took the other path at the fork in the road.

I can see where it comes off as gloating, though. Do you think I should modify this to focus more on the fork aspect? (genuine question)

When I chose Facebook, I believed that Uber was a better offer. A $100B+ valuation for them seemed plausible to me. I thought I was going to be making $35-55k less.

So, I actually was not a genius here. It was total luck.

People rarely examine their non-decisions ("what would my life be like if I went left at that fork in the road?"), and I thought this was a particularly clear-cut example of that.

I grew up next to Dallas and just moved from Austin a few months ago. Both cities value relaxation quite a bit.

Naturally, there are motivated people and pockets (that will probably comment on this), but those are exceptions. That's what caused me to move.

I feel the same way. In Sam Altman's most recent interview he talked about hours of use per day being an important metric for a new product.

It seems like the first high-use product in this category will be a lightweight regular looking set of glasses that simply displays your notifications.

Then in the future, add a camera to display overlays on the real world.

"The income statement shows a loss of $66 million in the first three quarters of this year. That’s more than twice as much lost in any nine-month time frame by Twilio Inc., another maker of software tools founded the same year as GitHub."

These sort of statements are a little annoying. I understand that Bloomberg has to write for a less technical audience, but the writer must know this isn't an accurate comparison.

I agree.

Mobile is already maturing. By the time web technology is good enough to create a native-feeling experience, we will be on to the next runtime.

(Disclaimer: I do iOS consulting, so hugely biased)

"In other words, the majority of women prefer the left side to the right side"

These sort of statements are misleading - women who are more physically attractive (unfortunately, what most males prefer) tend to prefer the model on the right (in my experience).

Ah ok - that's what I heard through Capital Factory. However, I can't imagine it would be more than 2 (you said a couple) orders of magnitude off.

Do you know approximately what the amount was?

I see what Joseph is saying about that macro trend. In Austin, RideScout (Kayak.com for transportation options) just sold for ~$100m to Daimler AG with only tens of thousands of user.

The importance to Daimler was seeing all the driving and traveling data for each user.
