It's hard to say – most Instagram influencers provide a public contact email +/- phone number for "business enquiries".

Could be that the data that is listed was previously on the profile but not currently (or matched from another service) vs acquired directly.

While interesting and worthy of debate, the title makes it feel a lot more general than reality (this is a study of Kickstarter companies, so goes with the huge sample bias of “stuff that gets put on Kickstarter”).

As a solo founder, I think people always love the idea but don’t acknowledge how lonely it is compared to having at least one other founder (not to mention complementary skills etc).

Most high growth businesses go to zero as time continues, so while there are outliers the majority (in number) case still remains a zero outcome, not more or less revenue (let alone exit $).

suggestion: surround yourself with people who constantly challenge you to do better. Everyone has times that they feel are "lost" but the time you need to remind yourself of is the moment that you realised you weren't doing what you wanted to be doing, or that something needed to change.

It wasn't until I started to spend time with people who I knew would ask hard questions and challenge me to keep going that I started to actually get shit done. Happy to chat if that'd help, but don't worry about time – my experience is that failed startups mean someone has a far broader level of experience than even they think they have.

And I'm one of those 27yo's who many people think have "made it" but still have the same sense of crippling "should I have done that differently" / "I squandered my youth" fear. It never goes away.

Web design / UX front-end Designer and NodeJS / MEAN engineer

We build products that solve wicked problems – simple solutions to complex issues.

We're looking to grow our small team by adding a full-time front-end engineer (experience with things like Angular, React etc a massive plus, but we also need someone with a core design nous – you should be confident prototyping in HTML and CSS). Some general experience doing traditional 'graphic design' is also useful for the occasional thing that needs to be put together (like a logo for an MVP).

We're also on the lookout for an awesome Node dev – some of our products are (relatively) boring CRUD-type applications (MEAN stack mostly) but we have some more interesting bits and pieces too in the realtime space (think slack meets trello), analytics (how do you build small questionnaires to produce meaningful ongoing measurement of employee satisfaction?) and trying to fix one of the web's biggest problems: PDF forms.

We're a little team and there are still a lot of things we need to work on internally, like formalising the ways that we work and roadmap products (an ongoing struggle), and I'd love to hear your thoughts on your approach.

haha if two hours is nothing to you, that's pretty lucky. We work 24x7 (global customers, yes US is a bit busier but not by a lot) and we're an Australian company, so not a whole lot of fun.

It only goes red when a nuclear event occurs, obliterating most of humanity and only the machines remain.

Better than what? Many of the other alternatives didn't have quite the same "iOS style" friendliness (a lot haven't had a whole lot of work done to them of late), and didn't submit as a unicode character (designed to append a PNG or SVG to the textarea). Also design-wise our customers preferred a large image layout on desktop, because it's a lot easier to click than small icons (say 16x16).

Yeah that one is hard to fix. We use the minEmoji set which will replace the unicode chars with SVG or inline image – that's why we folded it into our code – that way it shows up on desktops without an extension in Chrome (in particular). I haven't built a chrome extension so I don't know how easy it would be to fold it into an extension, but that's where I would recommend you start.

I'll admit that I haven't tested emojiboard in detail on Windows, but whenever a customer has a problem we can often tell them to install one of the browser-wide emoji typing solutions in Chrome and it will fix it, which I'm guessing is just something like minEmoji wrapped into a chrome extension!

Feel free to ask any questions (improvement suggestions (or even better pull reqs) are welcome!) - we just pulled this out of our existing app Schedugram as a friend asked to use it so I figured why not?

Essentially it's a jQuery dependent keyboard in a style generally similar to iOS (category and layout) that attaches to a <textarea>.

Currently hiring someone JS wise, to work remote. I don't care where you are, I care if you can deliver (i.e. frequent internet outages that mean you can't fork/commit changes = dealbreaker). My team is 99% remote, almost all conversation is via chat, email or PM tools.

So no, it won't necessarily cause you problems – you do need to be able to work and deliver on your connection, and you need to actually be good at what you do. That means you need to have a way to show me that you're good at what you do – for example, a well-kept collection of public github repos of modules, or contributions to major projects (and actual contributions, not "small readme changes to clarify example 3") is what I expect to see, and most certainly not a 'portfolio' of ToDo-style projects to demonstrate how you 'know <x> end-to-end' – that shows me nothing. I'd rather see a well-written Angular module than a ToDoMVC app that looks like it's been generated from a 101 tutorial.

As someone hiring some people* remote, your rate is at the way way top end of the scale. Even for people with core experience in Node (where I'm hiring).

I get what you're saying, but as an employer, the "non negotiable" and inflexible attitude is a point-blank no for me. Your OS contributions (caveat: spent 2 minutes looking) are hardly much (lists on github are not 'valuable programming', to me it's just content marketing that may as well be on a blog) compared to people asking for 1/2 to 2/3 of your proposed salary, who have core contribs, manage production-deployed packages/code that are in frequent use etc.

Your mileage may vary, so best of luck. But that's my perspective, as an employer, looking for remote devs. The competition is actually pretty high, and you can get awesome candidates that might earn $120-160k a year when working in the valley for $80-120k due to the lower costs they can incur ('valley tax') and the flexibility you offer as a remote employer.

Don't get me wrong, I know the value of a high-priced consultant (am/was one) to fix an emergency. But you're not asking people to deliver you an emergency, you're asking for a job. And to deliver in an emergency, you need a hell of a lot more credibility and slickness, which your post suggest you don't have.

* might be one, might be more. Depends on who applies and what it looks like.

Equally I agree with his approach of using a $9 template before validating w customers and working out the business model...not sure what the theme site says about the images licence wise but it's not necessarily a bad abstraction to assume that images included with a template are licenced with it if they aren't watermarked etc.

We're producing an awesome new app/ecosystem in the tertiary healthcare (hospital) space. Think slack meets trello meets doctors.

It's super-early days. We have ideas, we have some potential workflows, but a core part of this product's success will be its interface and user experience. Doctors are one of the most time-poor audiences around, and so being able to pick up the iOS/Android app + web interface quickly and easily will be the 'make or break' in delivering our product.

I'm looking for someone who can help us with the UX/UI on an advice basis, and provide design mockups for us to then do an MVP build on top of (are you an awesome dev? I'd prefer to build it cross-platform so if you have experience for stage 2 feel free to get in touch).

I'm a strong 'ship it early, ship it quick' advocate, so if you're someone who can take 'mockups' from sketch to full HTML (or even better, Angular/Ionic or similar in JavaScript) you will win all the dogepoints.
