These comments are pretty depressing. How many of you have ever used those government services? You are paying for them you know. This article should be encouraging. It worked. They payed in, they needed the help and got it, and now they are back on their feet.

Actually, I don't see how it is an important story, though it was interesting to read, and I enjoyed it. As you said, it's one more story in a long list of stories.

This part sums up why I quit using OS X for my personal projects: "And if your software crashed, you didn’t make excuses. You just made damn sure that particular scenario didn’t happen again. Ever."

In making sure nothing ever crashes, Apple has moved more and more to an OS that is too restrictive for my taste.

If the stress is overwhelming you, then you should see if there is a solution to remove the stress. If not, then you should probably quit. It isn't worth what stress can do to your health and relationships.

If they need you to do more work beyond your 40 hour week, to the point that they threaten to fire you, then your supervisor likely realizes they need you.

If you find that at 5pm that you are twenty minuets away from finishing something up, then you should consider doing that from time to time, just to show you're on the team.

I am lucky enough to be in a position that I am on salary, but I am still paid overtime if the work load moves beyond 40 hours a week. If I need to work an extra 15 to 30 minutes to finish up what I'm working on, I don't count that as overtime. If I get a ticket that needs addressed, but there isn't time to do it in the normal work day, that counts as overtime.

Maybe consider proposing something similar. If what they really need is a little more help, but don't want to hire a new dev, they may be willing to come up with a compromise.

My mother was insistent that my siblings and I knew Santa wasn't real. She was very naive as a child, and when she was 16 someone at school made a joke about kids that believe in Santa. She got in an argument with them, herself believing that Santa was real. Kids were cruel, as they are, and I guess it followed her for the rest of her school days.

My own children are young right now, so I let them enjoy it. I'll just make sure when they get a little older they know who's really buying those presents.

I've found NetBeans to feel less resource hungry than Eclipse, or IntelliJ IDEA, on my linux box. It also feels more intelligent than Eclipse when offering suggestions or code completion. I've, overall, been extremely pleased with it. I also prefer it aesthetically over Eclipse, for what that's worth.

The transition from Eclipse is really smooth, and there are many helpful FAQ's on the subject if you need it. I've been recommending it to friends since I made the switch a few months back.

I've found the results to be hit and miss, but I find for me it is a good starting off point to figuring a song out.

Exactly. It's asking to help get back privacy by giving private information. I understand why it's done, and it's quite useful to a lot of people. Still, having another option would be nice.

When I shared the link with a friend he mentioned he was uncomfortable giving his number and email address. Maybe consider having a link close to those fields to help the visitor find the number or email address of their Representative. That way if someone doesn't want to give out that information there is a quick alternative available.

You can do the math, but based of this statement " I’ve owned most of the consoles and handhelds, and I’ve played games on various computers too" I'm going to say he is several grand in, conservatively. I only point this out because it seems to me that gaming is something he actively pursues, if not in time then financially.

I get called a faggot multiple times a game pretty much every time I play online. Usually it's a kid that I'm beating. I don't particularly enjoy that, so I mute the person and talk to friends. It is what it is. I still proudly consider myself a gamer though.

I play all types of games. I do find the harassment tends to come from first person shooters, but it's an aggressive idea to virtually kill someone. For me it's a nice thirty minute way to blow off steam after a long day.

I would like to add that when I hear someone talking to a female player in a sexually degrading way I say something. Others do to. People also get called out for using racial slurs.

There is this odd overlap of adolescence and adults in the gaming world. Kids shouldn't be playing some of these games, but they are, and they act like kids act. Stupid.

Adolescent boys have a long history of doing and saying repulsive things. It's not ok, but it isn't new. My experience is that this behavior is getting better. Especially as we dialogue about it.

I could appreciate it if a person was playing it, but as it is I don't see any reason to be impressed. Anyone with music theory knowledge and the right software could make this. What's the point of cramming notes in if it doesn't take you somewhere.

My wife has the first generation and loves it. She uses it in place of her dead mb. She is finishing her masters degree, so a lot of paper writing and research. To compare it to an ipad or android tablet does a huge disservice to the device.

As I recall depending on what you paid you could install in on a different number of machines, but they didn't restrict you from installing it on more.

I understand that frustration, and in the past I considered going back to windows. The thing is, for me at least, when I have a problem on my linux box there is a vast community that seems eager to help. Usually someone else has had my problem and already outlined the fix. When I have problems with drivers on a windows machine the answer is almost always re-install windows. For me that is less then ideal.

I like what you are trying to do here. Pre-installed ubuntu isn't much of a value add for me, but I could see how it could be for some.

I wish the video focused more on the box itself, it looks really nice, but there isn't a lot of time to see it. I would love to see a device that caters a little more to the mainstream that runs linux out of the box. I wish your team the best of luck.

I had to go ahead and add ubuntu restricted extras from the software center, but after that everything worked. I didn't have to add any drivers for this distro to get sound, vid, mic, etc working properly. That's not surprising because the last few Ubuntu releases have gotten a lot better at out of the box hardware support. That's probably from Debian, but I don't actually know.

It looks intriguing, and I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for your hard work.
