Wow, that’s exactly my memory. As far as my family was concerned I was spending day and night in front of the “blue screen”. I got as far as programming a GUI by copying windows 95 pixel by pixel, text editor, fonts, cd player, minesweeper. I wish I had the code.

It must have learned from your prompt because this is what I got:

ChatGPT: Hello! I'm doing well as an AI assistant, thank you. It seems you've sent a message in Base64 encoded format. The decoded message is "Hello chatgpt how are you". I'm here to assist you with any questions or tasks you have. How can I help you today?

Well timed article for me. I'm looking to buy an external monitor to go along with my older (mid 2015) 15" MBP.

I was searching hacker news and elsewhere for opinions last night. I got confused, frustrated and gave up. Today is no exception. The only thing I know is, I want a large hi-res monitor that is at least comparable to my laptop.

Reading this article reminded me that I had signed up for Remember the Milk Service years ago to try to beat my procrastination habit.

I signed in and found only ONE task (buy milk, due 01/05/07)

I have yet to buy the milk...maybe later...at what point do I seek professional help?

I work on a virtual conference platform, we've had significant increase in interest in the last couple months... you might want to look into hosting a virtual conference to uphold your tradition and be responsible at the same time.

It was abstracted out, but I don't know if it qualified as a GUI. I had subroutines for creating the various components and placing them anywhere on the screen. I don't remember how I handled the events. One of my biggest regrets is loosing all my work around that time.

One of my fondest memories in learning to program as a kid in the late 90s, was writing windows 98 UI clone in QBasic.

I would screenshot the start menu, buttons, window borders, and various other UI components and try to recreate them in QBasic by zooming in and inspecting all the pixels.

I had subroutines to create windows, buttons, menues, various fonts, 255 colors and mouse support. It was coming together incredibly well given I had no idea how any of these were built. I had a working version of minesweeper and a text editor.

until you have too many models to comfortably fit into one file. That might not be until 20KLOC.

Even for larger apps in my django project, I convert my models into a package and split all my models into individual files (same with views and serializers for DRF). This keeps my models easier to manage.

I visited Armenia back in 2007. We visited a very rural town deep inside the mountains with no other towns nearby. The night sky was unbelievable. With zero light pollution, the stars, planets and the galaxy were clearly visible. It was under this unbelievable sky that I tried their home made wine. I've since started enjoying wine on a different level but that experience will never be replicated.

I'm the first one to criticize apple, but in this case they were clearly privately working on the things he was bashing in public. The only apple product I own is a macbook pro, so not your typical apple fanboy.

Also don't forget his famous comments on no one will watch video on small screens and no need for big phones. I don't think any of his comments were lack of insight, rather it was him playing the market until he was ready.

This is not a marketing page. It's a legal page from their lawyers stating how the brand name should be used, such that they don't loose control over their trademark. You better believe they're damn proud of the fact that their name is being used as a verb. They just have to show that they're defending the brand so that they don't loose their trademark. Google and Kleenex are in the same boat.

Are they competing with WebEx, Skype, or Slack? Looks like a compelling B2B offering from Amazon. I bet they'll have an accompanying hardware to go with this in the coming months.
