I am incredibly excited at seeing an economy like Russia's collapse. It's not very often you can witness such events. If 1991 was bad (people barely had anything to begin with), Monday will feel like the end of everything for the Russian population. Elect insane leaders, get insane results.

I think you underestimate Russia's love for their Tyrants. Giving Putin more ways to craft the narrative and convince the Russian people he has sent their sons on a picnic to Ukraine will not benefit people around the world or the Russian people.

The Russian people need the truth so they can understand the consequences of a Tyrannical Leader (if that helps).

Are you serious to suggesting we should hear from Putin's personal media outlets for a source on unbiased news coverage?

A sincere question, How do you feel about Hitler and the 3rd Reich, did they deserve more outlets also?

Both sources are controlled by Putin's Government and have been instructed to restrict Invasion/War and hinder coverage of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

They may be considered Slavs but the reality is many of them are more Mongolian and very different from Slavs. Even their language shows signs of Mongolian influence. The Mongolians could not pronounce certain sounds properly and the Russian language exhibits these pronunciations.

Sadly you're correct, unfortunately too many European countries are run by people who have a personal vested interest in Russia. It's alarming how many German (ex)politicians have business relations and this isn't just confined to Germany. The German response to Russia is laughable, we are not going to certify a pipeline that was not certified and lets shut down more reactors so we can become more dependent on Russian gas which makes us politicians who work for Gazprom and other Russian companies richer. Don't think I am not including the USA, Wall St is sweating bullets hoping this all goes away so they can get back to licking Russia's balls.

It's easy to spot which governments are in Russia's pocket. They don't even try to hide it. Today the world can openly see who stands with freedom/Ukraine and who is in Russia's pocket.

This "live map" makes it seem like there is some kind of war starting. There's nothing of the sort. War started 8 years ago, and this move by Putin last night actually ENDS the war decisively.

What a lot of folks in the West don't realize is that Ukrainian soldiers have been at war with Russian Mercenaries and Russian Soldiers since 2014. It's been a slow burn war and every week there have been Ukrainian KIA but it never made the news. We can only hope that you are correct about the war being over but I'm not so sure. My opinion is it will never be over as long as Putin and his mafia are in power. There is just too much at stake for them to hand over power to a new guard because of the hundreds of billions they have stolen from the Russian people.

The rebel-held regions which were backed by Russia have been in constant conflict for 8 years.

I don't think anyone believed that the Separatists/Russians in Ukraine were some home grown group. They were funded, supplied, and reinforced with Russian Mercs and Army from the beginning, it's just that the world didn't give a shit because there was too much business going on between Europe and Russia.

I still don't believe the West is going to take this or any future aggression seriously, strongly worded disappointments is about all they can muster in the face of evil. NATO and the West are toothless, America has no appetite to take on an enemy like Russia or China and those countries know it. Even now any reaction is just theater without any real consequences. What this means for the future is that it sets a precedent, There are millions of Russians seeded throughout Eastern Europe and it leaves the door open to separatism. Taiwan is also fucked, the Chinese will take it in a day and the USA won't do a single thing. Just saying, always hoping I'm wrong.

I don't think there are any US Cities where the price of a house or condo doubled to tripled during the pandemic. There is no where in NA where the price of a house is rising at approx 2k a week, The average price of a house in Toronto is predicted to rise by 100k this year. It isn't just Toronto anymore, actually Toronto is super affordable. The prices across the province especially in areas outside of Toronto that have been historically low have sky rocketed. King Township average price is like 2.6 million.

Thank the Federal Gov/BoC for destroying the dream of ownership for millions.

I would replace the Rice Bran with Coconut oil or EVOO. EVOO is fine to fry in 90% of the time. For that 10%, I use Organic unrefined coconut oil.

Here is some info on EVOO

https://fat.gold/guide/

Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and other common cooking oils were heated up to [460 degrees F] and exposed to [350 degrees F] for 6 hours, with samples assessed at various times, testing smoke point, oxidative stability, free fatty acids, polar compounds, fatty acid profiles and UV coefficients. EVOO yielded low levels of polar compounds and oxidative byproducts, in contrast to the high levels of byproducts generated for oils such as canola oil.

That's a great start but sadly most of those seed oils can still find a way into your body through through much of the food people eat. It's insane how much cotton seed, canola, rapeseed, corn, sunflower, Safflower, soy, rice bran oils are found in all processed and prepared food like breads, sauces, salad dressings, snack foods, and basically any every other packaged or processed food. Unless you are eating extremely clean, you're ingesting seed oils. Most pork and chicken that is bought is raised on seed oils but from what I understand ruminant animals are able to filter it out through their urine. One has to be extremely diligent in their food choices to eliminate seed oils from their diet and it takes years to get it out of your body. Ray Peat has some interesting stuff and has basically preaching long before it was popular to get PUFA's out of your diet. If you eat out, all restaurants and fast food is either cooked in it or it's in the food they are serving.

Check your pantry and read the ingredients on everything. I basically use Costco Organic EVOO and the big tub of Coconut oil you can buy there for everything and never go out to eat anymore for at least the last 4-5 years. My diet is so simple that I lost 100 pounds and kept it off just eating clean and doing some fasting.

There is no such thing as privacy or freedom in Russia today. It is a dictatorship run by a mafia boss and his cohorts. You can't trust anyone, your neighbors, friends, co-workers, no one.

Interesting enough Russians are more free in Ukraine today than they are in Russia, I suppose that is something that bothers Putin and runs counter to what he wants for the Russian people (poverty and slavery).

I hope the Government acts this quickly next time someone blocks the rail lines .

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/12/canada-protest...

It seems there are different laws for different people in Canada, especially the folks who decided against a Covid Vaccine. Who would have though the Government of Canada would turn into something you would expect from a 3rd world dictatorship. Whether you agree with the protestors or not you lose also. Thank goodness we're still free in the USA.

What a hit piece.

By developing a casting machine and buying parts from local Chinese companies (for their factory in China) is considered helping Chinese firms compete with the US?

Elon Musk evil, cheap, doesn't pay taxes...bad Elon Musk, bad...

-NYT aka fake news.....

My sister had multiple properties where her bid was beat out by someone offering $100k+ over ask

This really isn't bad, consider Toronto, Canada where house that's over 100 years old (tear downs) cost well over 1 million and increase in value by over $2000 a week, yeah you heard that right.

There are houses outside the city (almost anywhere in Southern Ontario)that were anywhere from 200k -400k pre pandemic that are now approaching 1-2 million. I have seen 50 year old 1200 sq/ft Condos in Toronto go from 300k pre pandemic to now 800k. I believe by the end of this year the average price of a house in Toronto Canada will be approaching 1.5 million plus and is probably on a trajectory of 3-5 million in the next 5-10 years. Before you say it can't keep going, it's been on this path for the last 15 years and is showing no sign of letting up.

Governments are bankrupt and can't raise interest rates meaningfully ever again.

In an effort to preserve capital, money is finding it's way into RE. What better hedge against Inflation and as a bonus it pays dividends(rent) while you sit on it. Blackstone has been on a tear lately.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-16/blackston...

Blackstone Inc. is buying apartment owner Preferred Apartment Communities Inc. The deal includes more than 40 rental apartment properties including 12,000 units in states including Florida, Tennessee and Georgia. Preferred Apartment also owns 54 grocery-anchored shopping centers.

I think it safe to say without much doubt that ZH is an extremely Pro Russian media outlet. Daniel and his father (Bulgarians) have been funded to some extent with Russian money and have ties to the Russian propaganda machine. I really am impressed they have been able to survive this long with all the shit they spew and the incredibly Pro Russian / Anti-American stance.

If I had to find a place to retire on the cheap it would be Eastern Europe. Probably Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, even maybe Poland (more expensive). You are a hop, skip and jump away from the rest of Europe, Turkey, etc and it's probably just as or more affordable than Asia or Latin America. A doctor in some of those countries earns $250-$300 USD a month. You can live an extremely comfortable life on SS in that part of the world with access to what you mostly are accustom to back in the USA.

Trudeau is working overtime to create a boogeyman so they can take more rights away from people.

It's all so predictable it's laughable. First they start off with Right Wing Extremists. Then they move on to foreign actors trying to disrupt Canadian lives. Meanwhile it Joe6Pack from down the street who is out there because they are trying to prevent him from being able to live, work, shop, or exist. These folks who don't want to take the Vaccine are being subjugated to Trudeau's (Doug Ford too) discriminatory policy and there should be an organized effort to drag their corrupt asses in front of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.

American chestnut 4 years ago

If this is the same Chestnut Tree that was on our street, it's a very messy tree for an urban environment (massive tree). It would rain baseball sized pods down on cars parked underneath it. It would leave a huge mess on the sidewalks and road every year.
