Is there anyone who could point me to an easy-ish way to get this running on a PI + Screen? I have a special-needs son who would LOVE to have this running. I'll take any advice! Thank you!

Can anyone offer any guidance on the audiobook aspect of this? What is a "Kindle book with narration"? If I'm an audible customer... doesn't this seem like a far better deal? Their page seems very light on details for audiobooks.

One of the key features of Everpix was the "set and forget" capability. Also their dupe-detection was really good.

Do any of those do that? I guess Dropbox is the most established... I'd hate to be in this same situation in a year from now with Loom...

Everpix was one of the best $5/month I spent. I would have been willing to spend far more for their services. I wish they would have tried to bump the price up to save the service. Having one place for all my photos made me exceptionally happy. Even my wife absolutely loved Everpix.

I guess I need to find an alternative... what are they?

Aside from the actual product announcement... I'm interested to see that they created an Android and iOS version at the same time. For the past several years, Android apps were typically pushed off a month (or years, in Instagram's case).

I wonder if their Android app drove much of their adoption in the past year or so, and as such, they decided to make sure they could launch feature-complete apps on both platforms on day one?

If so - will Android finally start getting apps on pace with iOS?

I was most interested by their Live TV offering. But does anyone have any details on how they get the TV stream? One of the slides mentioned HDMI In/Out - does that mean it's going the GoogleTV route? I have a logitech revue - and I absolutely hate it.

So this looks amazing... and I want to buy into it... but I was just burned by Snapjoy several months ago.

I feel like I'll pay the money... spend my time syncing my library and getting everything organized... and then someone else is going to snatch you guys up and shut it down.

Clearly you guys have a business model and a product you're selling. If I can't even rely on you guys being in business long-term, what can I do? But you guys have built an amazing product! Keep up the good work!

I'm pretty sure they (Facebook) will lose the ability to call this an "Android" phone - and clearly they won't be entitled to the Google Suite of apps.

Further than that... I don't think there are any repercussions.

Personal disclosure - I'm not interested in a Facebook phone in the slightest (mostly for privacy concerns).

I think this is an interesting concept. Let's assume it is in fact a total fork of Android, in essence, a "Facebook Phone". I really think (as big as Facebook is) they will have a hard time with this. I'm not sure there is space for another type of device - even if it is a massive consumer brand.

I get the sense that a lot of people use Facebook for it's utility... but I think it has lost it's "cool factor" with the general public. I can't see a lot of people thinking "man - I really want deeper integration with Facebook!" Isn't the FB app good enough for most people?

Anecdotally, it's typically the people in the room who are either a) late to the meeting or b) go off on tangents or c) cause the meeting to overrun. There are lots of good and bad things about remote workers... but being a hamper on meetings shouldn't be one of them.

If you have 20 people in the office - and 1 remote worker - your conference times should be at the preferred time of the 20.

I think you're on to something there. I've always thought apps that are enhancement experiences of websites that are free struggle to stand on their own. I think a free app supported by in app purchases of features the website can't match is spot on. Keep up the good work!

I really like the app so far. A few feature ideas - adding a preference to load the story or comments first. That might fit in a bit better with some people's workflows of looking at the comments first.

Also - I found myself wanting some "read/unread" feature of the story column. I'd love to know if I've already seen a story or not.

Genuine question - have preorders always been this popular? Or are they a relatively new thing? It seems that Kickstarter has really changed people's perceptions of purchasing a product. People seem much more willing to pre-buy something like this.

This looks cool - but what is the advantage of using this over something like Plex? With Plex - I'm hosting the files myself... so I don't have to upload something until I want to watch it remotely. I realize that could also be a negative (if my server goes down while I'm traveling - bummer). But surely with my own server, I can have much more storage, and my files are instantly available once they're on the computer. Also - Plex is free.

I think you're right - it only prevents the iPad from falling over. They probably use suction cups of some sort. If someone is determined though - they'll just rip it off and run out the door.

Several days ago - there were a bunch of stories about Google opening retail locations around the country. I think the reason they will do this is obvious: they want people to use their products in person.

To me - for Glass to be successful - they will have to allow people to play with them. This is the kind of thing that would sell amazingly in a retail setting. Imagine the line of people lining up just to put one on and see what it looks like.

On some level - I agree with you. I do think people (while in groups) should not spend a bunch of time on their phone. To me, it's more of a courtesy thing.

But surely, at some point in the past after books became portable, someone was shouting and complaining about all these people with their heads buried in books! When papa came home from work he used to talk to us! But now he reads! Oh no!

I'm not sure if you're being snarky or not... but nsfw in the domain is a good reason to give caution while at work, right? There are a lot of terms that, if in a domain name, I would choose not to read at work.

One of the most important features on a phone (to me) is the camera. I love that they're willing to try a new take and make a better camera. But why are they not releasing sample images? If you're going to push a new technology... back it up with some examples!

This is kind of hacky but...

If you're willing to schedule a Google Calendar event for wherever you want to go - and give it a location... Now will actually figure that out for you. It will tell you when to leave to get to that event (and forgo telling you the commute time to home).

Here's the thing... every item on your list is laptop specific. I just don't see how it being on the Surface Pro does you any good? Ultimately - you're paying $900-$1000 - and (from what you've written) you're going to use it exactly like a laptop. At that point... aren't there better laptops for your money?

First things first - this device looks great. I'm willing to set aside the big unanswered questions (price, how are they selling it, who makes it, when will it be available) - but one big lingering question remains: games.

I know that this runs Android... so existing market games will run on it. But just like the Ouya, games are going to need some special development to work with this game pad so they have a worthwhile experience.

Typically, when a gaming system launches... they trot out all the big developers who have committed to building a AAA title for launch day. If they manage to get several big must-have games - awesome! If not, it could be a tough sell.

Don't get me wrong - I love this and the Ouya... I think android-based game consoles are great and I hope they're the future...

As a soon-to-be-father myself... this is the kind of parent I want to be! Kudos!

I'm really happy for the Snapjoy team - I love their product! But to be honest, I'm a little bummed. I thought that since this service was making money through subscriptions, they would be around for a while. I spent a lot if time and effort moving my entire photo library to their cloud.

I know they haven't given any details about the future of the product, but I imagine they will move the team to DropBox products. As someone who was hoping for a long term improving product, that's a little depressing.

I guess the lesson is that even startups that you pay for aren't immune to being sold. What services are safe to invest time and money in using?

One question - does the Instagram API not facilitate location export? As in... none of my Instagram location info was moved over to Flickr location data.

The fact that the developer would only allow the app to run if the user granted access to their twitter feed would be very annoying to me. This scenario is exactly what Apple tried to help users avoid with Twitter permissions. I understand the developers wishes to stop piracy - but this is the wrong way. Simply checking for Installous is an incredibly lazy hack to check for piracy.
