Well my point is not that everyone should be able to live off $18k a year. My point is that You don't need $500k a year to live decently. I have a new car, a good apartment and amenities such as cable TV and xbox live. Certainly geography plays a large role in individual costs. But again, I'm not trying to say everyone should live on $18k a year. I'm saying I (a single fellow btw) do, and it's a satisfactory lifestyle complete with all the necessities and a few luxuries.

In any case. It's not editorialized at all.

Bullshit. I live on roughly $18k a year net. buy a house, maybe doubles or PERHAPS triples my housing allowance. Have a wife and kids and things, in total, probably triple.

Wow. This interview is SPOT ON. So applicable to pretty much every industry. Thanks for posting. Worth resharing through other networks. Hopefully more people will read stuff like this that actually explains the hiring problems employers face.

I always laugh when people question why others make more than them. Standard salary for mid-level journalists is around $27k a year. Teachers are around $35k. I don't know about other careers, but there's always somebody making less than you.

I've seen SEVERAL times that "most programmers can't solve fizzbuzz." I did this after just a few months of learning python, on paper no less (Ok, i had one if/elif statement in the wrong spot. a quick run of the script in the command line showed me it didn't work how I thought it should and I fixed it).

But are there any DATA that corroborate this largely anecdotal statement? I figure, it has to be much less prevalent than these statements. (Or if it isn't, I better get my ass in gear and really learn to program so I can make the big bucks).

But .... but .... anecdotes are what politicians use to get elected !!!! (e.g. Joe the Plumber, et al).

If we downvote anecdotes, we won't have a justification to vote for scumbag politician with a heartfelt story to tell!!

Is getting a customer to interact with its product really considered terribly clever or Apple-esque? Isn't this the goal of any decent marketer? I like looking at electronics at walmart, but it frustrates the hell out of me that I can't USE them. I'm not going to buy something unless I can test drive it first.

yeah. The thing about google though is that you can just sign out of your google accounts and they dont track you, I believe. Facebook -- nope. We're with you all the time !!!

I would say the difference is that, regardless of how it is used or presented, this ultimately links the information to a specific person, not just some generalized IP address.

I would assume they are typically upvoted for a reason. Obviously you have access to data I'm not privvy to, but 400+ upvotes in that little time would, I imagine, represent a significant portion of people who read the post. Obviously the site is no democracy, and I think we all understand that. But I would also guess that user feedback is appreciated (hence the request to send feedback via email). I would also think that many users have the same questions, but do not bother with an email because it is not really worth the hassle, and upvote a thread like that just to voice their agreement [else they would not upvote, unless they were simply trying to troll].

The whole scenario is fairly minor, but it seems to raise at least a small concern among what I would guess is a respectable portion of the userbase.
