I have so many problems with McKenna. Guy was a drug addict but because he was one of the first to write about drugs during an era of taboo, he gets a pioneers deference. That would be fine if people still didn't glorify his absurd doses and bull shit about "knowledge downloads" or whatever it is.

It's pretty easy to check his Wikipedia and see for your self what his academic background is. You can also read research done specifically by him, if you can find it, and you can read his books and judge for yourself if what he is selling is suspiciously without evidence. Or go to his website hocking "host defense" mushroom capsules.

Compared to an actual mycologist like Gary Lincoff (rip), I think you'll see the contrast to be sharp.

Ha none. We are not "conservative" in the least bit, or even politically performative.

I agree with you, but this is not the case. It is very much a trend with people in their mid 30s right now. The overlap is there yes, we have friends who have children, but for instance my wife announced her pregnancy and had 4 friends announce shortly there after. We certainly did not conspire with them on conception :)

It is an odd time for everyone to be really into kids but perhaps that is a species trigger for all we know

Everything about this thread is weird and woefully online.

As an n of 1, we are surrounded by so many births that we just trade baby gear since we are either a handful of months ahead or behind many other parents. Our assumption was that we were in a stealth baby boom. Truly everyone we know has a minimum of one very young child with a high number of parents with between 2 and 4.

It certainly runs counter to many online discussions but reality often does.

This is, in effect, the entirety of human history though. 99.9999% of our collective cultures and behaviors disappear into the aether

We can't have a discussion about "traditional media" until we talk about the perverse incentives of advertising.

Right now all media is focused on driving eyes to ads and data harvesting and that is it. There is no "defense of democracy" or any other high minded fantasy morals at play here.

It's a business like any other, only it's been granted vast protections from the repercussions of its actions.

What's missed here is the erasure of front lines as a part of the evolution of warfare. Ukraine, again, proves this. So it's granted that yes this means fewer people on the front lines, fewer front lines will exist in general as new targets open up to cheap drone warfare

As a glasses wearer I'm looking forward to this tech. I like the idea of natural, seamless auto focusing, and as a future fantasy, a simple, toggleable overlay of info would be nifty.

The point going unsaid, in my opinion, is that we are quickly realizing that we'll need to identify with something that isn't work soon. We'll need to find value beyond money.

I think that horrifies people.
