Curious, how does the game monetise, do you have loot-boxes in-game or something? Or is it enough that people play it? What kind of game mechanics are possible to build around?

Agree whole-heartedly. The strong contracts are the #1 reason to use GraphQL.
The other one I would mention is the ability to very easily reuse resolvers in composition, and even federate them. Something that can be very clunky to get right in REST APIs.
That was a fun little game! The hinting felt appropriate, only thing I didn't really like was that it got a bit "cramped" towards the end moving things around. Will try it again tomorrow. :)
It’s probably the same way monks copying books felt when the printing press came along. “Look at this mechanical, low-quality copy. It lacks all finesse and flourish of the pen!”
I agree with you that it is sad. And what is especially sad is that the result will probably be lower quality overall, but much cheaper. It’s the inevitable result of automation.
Thank you for taking the time to do a thorough read, I just skimmed it, and the prose is certainly not for me. To me it lacks focus, but as you say, this may be the style the readers enjoy.
And it also, as you say, really reuses words. Just reading I notice "phosphorescence" 4 times for example in this chapter, or "ooze" 17 times (!).
It is very impressive though that it can create a somewhat cohesive storyline, and certainly an improvement over previous models.

Is it not more likely the # of deaths are related to obesity for example, where US has 5-7 times as many obese as Japan for example. Which matches the % deaths statistic you have there quite well.
In other words: it's not easy. There are many factors at play.
While I’m not a consumer of this product, I met some of the product designers at the medieval week in Visby, Sweden today. And that the company supports a project like this, which is clearly a passion project, displays joy. After this I think teenage engineering is a great place to work. Not just a SV product factory.
The web distribution certainly makes it much more viable to offer apps outside the App Store, and have reasonable conversion rates. Now PornHub or similar could easily offer their app from the website.
With this available (which is a much simpler system), all of the App Marketplace-convoluted setups seems redundant.
Looker might look attractive, but it is missing so many basic features it is not competitive. You can't even query a view in BigQuery, you can't use window functions in data sources. All error messages are entirely opaque. Access management is very limited etc.
PowerBI / Tableau is much more full-featured.

There was a dearth of CNC machines on the market back in 2011-2012 due to Apple buying so many (via Foxconn, https://appleinsider.com/articles/11/10/21/catcher_hoping_to... ). But they were shared for iPhone production etc. This is the source for the 10 000 machines number.
I however recall that they claimed in a keynote it took 10 hours to machine a single unibody MacBook, which would make the capacity for a single machine about 700 cases a year.

It is looking like A16 will be on a smaller node. Likely manufacturing it on the current node would be too expensive due to increased transistor count.
Available volume on the new node will be much smaller, so they had to prioritize. This is likely why only the iPhone pro will get the A16.
I believe the purpose of this is to generate solar power at night. Australia won’t help China there since it is in a nearby timezone.
Problem is the tradeoffs involved.
You can make a cable that support 40 Gbps / 100W, but it will be $50 and very thick, with a maximum length of 1m (or cost $400 if you want an optical 10m long cable).
Or you can make a thin, 480Mbps / 5W cable that costs $2 that can be 5m long.
Or you can make a 10Gbps / 20W cable that is $10, can be 2m and is medium thick.
If you want them all in one cable, all cables would be $400, which would be a larger problem for most consumers (and even optical cables can't really be bent / are very fragile. So unfit for travel. Not a good solution either). You can't have everything in one cable.
You could claim that there should be 3 separate connectors then for the 3 cases above. But I don't think that would be an improvement really. At least you /can/ charge your laptop with the thin cable overnight, even if it is slow. And you can connect your phone to your laptop charger etc.
6S did not have the OIS or autofocus features that lead to this problem. There are no moving lens elements in that phone.
Replacing libjpeg, libpng, h264 & h265 codecs etc. is a gargantuan task. Even if Apple employs another 200 rust programmers (which don't exist in the market – so not possible) it would take years before that project is close to finishing. So intermediate solutions are necessary until then. It is also likely a rewrite would introduce other security issues (not memory safety issues) which would take time to fix.
Rewriting these libraries is probably also a common good, that would be better done through open source initiatives.

There is nothing stopping you from making a new lithography series of Picasso’s sketches, but they won’t be worth nearly the same as the originals.
The utility provided by the NFTs is in actually owning the “original”, not that it is not reproducible.
In general, greater income tax leads to greater wealth inequality.
The reason is, higher income tax means it is more difficult to become wealthy. So in countries with high income tax, the majority of wealthy people is those that inherited their wealth. Over time some wealthy people become poor, but with high income tax, even fewer become rich. This means that wealth becomes more and more concentrated among the few, which is somewhat counter-intuitive.
So in the US, wealth-mobility is greater than Denmark for example, resulting in the list on Wikipedia, where countries that are thought of as "unequal" actually are the most equal of all when it comes to wealth.

In Europe, most of the Tesla features are disabled because they were deemed hazardous. Only lane assist and adaptive cruise control is enabled. The others are severely limited or disabled (Summon etc.)
Indeed. While the damage & health numbers are the same between games, the improved “MicroAI” of the units makes them much more efficient.
Doubling the health of all units, would make the game more interesting.

Sorry. I meant high resolution screens. There were hardly any “retina” laptops (and no desktop screens) when apple started introducing theirs in 2012.
There were no LCD screen for laptops either in 2010. But market created it to fit demand, and now there are a lot of options.
It is extremely likely other companies will step up with new offerings. But it will take 2-3 years (where Apple will reap the benefit of being early).
