I get summers off. I want to visit SoCal or FL during July / August 2017 to learn surfing (I'm a young-at-heart, very physically active male 44 year old, never married, no kids).

During that stay, I'd like to work for a start-up or some such. Don't need pay, but sweat equity and a place to crash would be yuuuuuge.

On the bright side, India could benefit immensely from less brain drain.

I don't understand this focus on "white".

Young people everywhere are haunted by crises and despair.

The word "Mercedes" in Kalanick's summary is a highly loaded word with a lot of prior meaning attached to it.

Similarly, I think, when people say "Airbnb for something", they're using shorthand for something with a lot of prior meaning attached to it.

My point: we're being too harsh on those who use "Uber for this" or "Airbnb for that"... they're using shorthand the way Kalanick used "Mercedes".

Twitter doesn't work predictably. Period.

The mobile web app is a disaster. There are two back buttons (one in the browser and one in the app), and if I click on a "retweet with comment" to go into the original tweet, and then try either back button, it doesn't take me back to the "retweet with comment".

"Hatching Twitter" claimed they smoke a lot of dope in the offices there. I'm inclined to believe it.

Zuck was 100% apropos: it's a clown car that fell into a gold mine and now doesn't know what to do with it.

I'm huge into hacking "learning." I've studied Spanish (Pimsleur Level IV and Michel Thomas Foundation) and French (Pimsleur Level I and Michel Thomas Foundation), and am fluent in English and Hindi. I have a PhD, and hope to do a J.D. one day. Good cook, regular meditator. Originally from India, I have my green card, and expect to have citizenship by summer.

What makes you think they'll be treated with violence and hate?

"Upper caste" Indians (Brahmins / Kshatriyas) have a history of treating marginalized tribal groups with violence and hatred. Forcibly removing them to exploit natural resources.

Unbelievable. I hope they can be studied with compassion and care. Not with violence and hate. And I hope they can be gently introduced to modernity without reducing them to janitors in Mumbai.

Also, the article claims it's located between Myanmar and Indonesia. That's just wrong. It's apparently located in the Andaman Islands, which are claimed by India.

I was thinking maybe the poorer cognition actually helps relieve the depression. Because a lot of depressives overthink (some past event, etc).

In the USA, there's a fantasy Denmark that exists in the media.

In the fantasy Denmark, there's no crime, all the women are hot blondes who never get fat, there's cheap weed every where (and apparently free clean heroin), the furniture is sleek, all the men are feminists who never objectify women (there's no porn), the school system is fantastic (every child is good at math), the healthcare is free and high-quality, education is universal, free and high quality, and there are plenty of jobs for everyone (and high quality ones too!).

Pretty much like the rest of fantasy Europe.
