If you glance at their whitepaper, stability analysis, or old FAQs they had up, it’s clear they’re thoughtful. Therefore, comments like these underestimate the founders:

“Please. Figure out what a government bond is, first. Then we can have a little chat about scalability.”

"electric boogalo"

"But you need to study politics, economics and history to learn things like this, which I understand are not computer science and are therefore unpopular"

Preston takes an insulting tone towards the basis team. Fine to critique, but assumes the visionaries of this project are uneducated, or haven't given things proper thought. I assure you they are thoughtful...

I'm a blockchain investor at [redacted] if you want to talk more. Initial thoughts:

-A solution in your space is badly needed. Fund administrators really need an option that is better than cointracking.info and coinigy. A lot of these folks are looking at partnering with Libra here in the near future.

-your offering as is, is too limited. anyone investing seriously in the space owns a lot more than than the 4 coins available in your wallet option.

-Most could probably get by with the exchanges you have listed so that's a a good thing

I know you're just getting started, so I'm excited to see how your offering progresses. Good luck, and happy to talk more offline. Would also be interested in investing. Thanks.

I don't understand why folks are making such a big deal about Tether. If it is indeed a scam, wouldn't that imply a $2-$3 billion scam at most? What am I missing? As of this writing, the entire crypto market cap is at a recent low of $300 billion. Tether would be around 1% of the total market.

Depends on your perspective. Prices dropped significantly because people started to prefer dollars to some extent. Several of the large exchanges that existed back then are still around, however, and others were acquired. Examples of those still around: Coinbase, Bitstamp, Bitfinex, Kraken. Sure I'm missing others.

I mention the above only to say it didn't feel like a true bank run to me at the time. People were still able to get in and out, but prices were certainly depressed. And several of the exchanges survived.
