If you read his own top comment on that LinkedIn post he clarifies:

“The simple reason is: the (AI powered) tools are this good now. And people use these tools against curl source code.They find lots of new problems no one detected before. And none of these new ones used Mythos. Focusing on Mythos is a distraction - there are plenty of good models, and people who can figure out how to get those models and tools to find things.”

Government isn’t perfect but I’d be interested to know what alternative you propose?

Is it? It would be incredible if the government didn’t have specific requirements for critical infrastructure.

Say you’re an energy company and an incident could mean that a big part of the country is without power, or you’re a large bank and you can’t process payroll for millions of workers. They’re ability to recover quickly and completely matters. Just recently in Australia an incident at Optus, a large phone company, prevented thousands of people from making emergency calls for several hours. Several people died including a child.

The people should require these providers behave responsibly. And the way the people do that is with a government.

Companies behave poorly all the time. Red tape isn’t always bad.

If supply chain integrity is the issue specifically for Shopify, couldn’t they run their own private, internally facing gem repository and whitelist everything that goes there? It’s not a requirement to use the public rubygems.

I’m similar. I’ve just done a few things to dumb down my iPhone. No notifications etc.

I could happily avoid social media but safari is by far my biggest time wasting app. News as well as googling random interesting things all day and then ending up going down random rabbit holes on niche topics. Also not a great use of time because I end up learning a little trivia on lots of stuff, nothing particularly useful.

I want my phone so I have a good camera on photos of my kid, managing my business, maps and small daily things like being able to sign my kid into daycare. I can delete the time wasting apps… except safari is the main offender.

I doubt it. Here in Australia at least companies with large gov contracts are prevented by gov policy from paying ransoms.

Anecdotally a similar effect happened with a friend’s childcare center.

They were sick of parents showing up late to pick their kids up so they instituted a penalty of $x for every minute a parent was late. More parents ended up being late because they felt less guilty knowing they could just pay the penalty. The social pressure to be on time was replaced by a financial one.

250k is not a lot. A 15-20 person company could conceivably spend more than that month, especially with dev salaries, rent etc.

I can vouch for this - I’ve just rolled out workos with three enterprise customers in the last 6 months. Super simple, great docs. Had been putting off SSO for years hoping something would come along and solve it for me.

E.g I know nothing about Azure AD but I just emailed the WorkOS setup link to our customer’s IT team, they followed the instructions and it just worked. No back and forth.

I’ve been using Cloud66 for about a year to run a fairly complex rails app that has been in development for about 6 years. Strikes a nice balance of owning the infra while having it managed.

The docs could use a lot of work though, and I find upgrading things like Ruby versions far more annoying than it should be.

Previously used Dokku for a few years then it was on heroku before that. Switched off dokku to outsource more of the ops.
