No specific hardware will be provided, but participants will have access to APIs to help prototype their solutions. We won’t be sharing the API details until the day of the event. They’ll be introduced alongside the challenge prompt to keep things level for all teams.

Absolutely, no energy background required.
We’re looking for builders who can think critically about how AI agents might be used to improve compute efficiency. That could mean smarter scheduling, load balancing, power-aware inference, or even model-level optimizations. If you’re strong in AI, that’s already a great foundation.
The challenge prompt will be revealed on the day of the hackathon, but it’s designed to be approachable from multiple angles..., systems, infra, or model design.
Happy to chat more if helpful.
MARA | AI, Compute, Energy Hackathon | San Francisco | June 21, 2025 | https://www.mara.com/hackathon-2025
MARA is bringing together 100 students in San Francisco for a focused hackathon on the convergence of energy, compute, and AI. It’s a one-day event with technical prompts, mentorship, and a 1 BTC top prize.
Challenges will explore how AI agents can help solve the growing imbalance between compute demand and energy availability.
It still sounds far-fetched, but Apple’s grip on the App Store might not be permanent. With the pace of developer tooling, cross-platform engines, and web-native experiences, the concept of the ‘app store’ itself could start to feel outdated.
This latest move should be seen as a pressure release. If Apple tries to reassert control too aggressively, they’ll create the conditions for viable alternatives to grow. That kind of shift used to take decades. Now it could happen in years.
